A Message from Ms. McKay
Week two brought us a roller coaster of weather, and we just took each day as it came! We also began digging into exciting topics and learning. Across the building we are looking at life cycles and how things grow. Kindergarten students were thinking and learning about how plants go from seeds to flowers. First graders and second graders were thinking and learning about butterflies and insects. Second grade classrooms even have painted lady caterpillars and ladybug larvae they are watching and learning about!
We also learned, and will continue to learn, what it means to be a citizen. This is a really tricky word for young learners, but we often ask them to be good citizens. To help them understand this, we are reading books and practicing ways of being good citizens of our school.
Friday we celebrated the International Day of "The Dot!" I hope you had some polka dots to wear! "The Dot" is an inspiring story about a young student, Vashti, who says she cannot draw. Her art teacher encourages her to try, and she ends up drawing a dot. To her surprise, the dot is hanging on the board in her next art class! She begins experimenting with using dots, and ends up discovering she can do so much more than she thought she could. Sometimes all it takes is a dot to get us started down the road of creativity and discovery!
