District Highlights
Happy CTE Month!
Career and Technical Education Month® is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate CTE, the accomplishments of CTE programs and the importance of CTE for all students of all ages.
Some amazing things are happening in the CTE world here in the Shelton School District! Freshman Academy has had a great start to the year. All Freshman (~450) in our district have the opportunity to learn about each of the four academic academies, hear from the teachers in the programs, and then experience a hands-on environment. For example, our Natural Resources experience was a trip to Sierra Pacific Industries, where students learned the connection between natural resources in education and in the field - through a fantastic community partner to the school district.
Entertainment Production students have started working with WIAA to film state level competitions in sports such as football, basketball, etc. They showed such expert employability, WIAA has asked for more!
NJROTC recently passed their inspection with top marks and continues to showcase their collaborative efforts with PE, dance and civic responsibility that they have attracted additional community partner opportunities.

Ready! for K - Free Online Preschool Parent Workshops
January 29th through February 12th, Shelton School District is offering Ready! for Kindergarten classes! These classes are FREE, online, and self-paced workshops for parents/caregivers of children ages birth to five years old who live in the Shelton School District. Through “play and learn” activities, these classes will give you the knowledge and tools you need to help your children get ready for school.
Steps to complete
- Register online for your child's age-appropriate class
- Look for an e-mail with your unique class link.
- Complete the online class and the survey at the end, then choose a tool pick-up date.
- Attend virtual course(s) from the comforts of your home!
Workshops are online and self-paced. You may pause and return to the workshop at another time. Each workshop takes approximately 1 hour to complete. Once you register to take a workshop, you will need to wait to be manually approved to start the workshop. Once you get approved, you will receive an email that you may start your workshop.
Once the workshop is completed, you will be prompted to fill out an online form where you can leave comments and also schedule a time to pick up your free tool kit.
Who is eligible to attend?
Parent(s)/guardian(s) of children birth to five years of age who live within the boundaries of the Shelton School District. If you're not sure if you live in the Shelton School District boundaries, visit our school boundaries page to find out.
More than one child ages birth to five?
Please plan to attend Ready! for each child, as sessions are age-appropriate and happen simultaneously. You may choose to attend the workshop on multiple dates or bring an additional adult who can attend another class on the same date as you.
Big Smiles - Dental Care Coming to Your School
Great news! Your school has partnered with Big Smiles to offer dental care at school.
Two ways to schedule a dental exam:
- Fill out and return the paper form sent home by your school
- Register online
Best of all, in most cases there is no cost to you if your child is insured with Medicaid/CHIP! Private insurance and affordable self-pay options are also available.
Dental care includes a complete exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride, and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings. Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:

StreamTeam Summer Internship for Hood Canal Students
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group is a local nonprofit that has been conducting salmon research, restoration and education around the Hood Canal watershed for over 30 years.
Every summer they offer their StreamTeam internship, where students learn valuable skills for any career related to fisheries, environmental science, biology, and ecology. They get hands-on monitoring experience on several Hood Canal rivers and streams, and the data they collect helps the organization with future habitat restoration and fish research programs.
This program is only available to local students! It's a great program where students are working outside gaining valuable experience in the field - plus they get a stipend.
