Mason Moose Minutes January 6th!

Message from the Principal
Dearest Mason Families,
Happy Friday and Happy New Year! It was a short week at Mason and it was great to see everyone back from the break! Students were excited to share about all of the excitement that took place while they were away, who they saw, what gifts they got, where they went and more! Taking part in such discussions also allowed us to reflect on 2022, and talk about how important it is to set goals for ourselves as we move into 2023 to be the best version of who we want to be!
Looking ahead to next week, I would like to remind families about the Y5 & Kindergarten Information Night at Mason that is scheduled for Thursday, January 12th at 6:30 p.m. Please do share this information with any family you may know who may benefit from attending this informative event, and feel free to refer to the flyer below in the newsletter as well. Our dynamic Y5 and kindergarten teachers will be present, along with myself to share applicable information and answer any questions!
Please be kindly reminded that NWEA testing will begin next week for various classes! Teacher newsletters will share specific days in which students in specific classes will be testing. We encourage students to get a good night rest, and come to school after having a healthy breakfast. Teachers will be sharing students' scores with them after completion, along with families as well. As always we want students to take their time, try their best, and believe in themselves as we believe in them!
Lastly, but certainly not least, please do read below some exciting news about our efforts to promote more literacy and STEM at home! The Title I team has been working hard to prepare for a variety of read aloud books and science experiment activities to be sent home with students! We are excited about this opportunity for families to work and have fun with their student reading and facilitating experiments! If you need anything, know we are here to address any needs and as always... Teamwork it is! Together we learn, together we lift, and together we lead! One Mason, One Family, One Team!

Mason Moose Word of The Week
Mason Families,
At Mason we are working on enhancing our students’ vocabulary by working on a word of the week schoolwide. A solid vocabulary boosts reading comprehension for students of all ages. The more words students know, the better they understand the text. One way you can help is to use these new words in real-world contexts. Our goal is to make sure the words are meaningful and relevant to their lives. Please feel free to use this word of the week activity sheet to practice using the weekly word. Activity ideas

Kindly know that in order for students to play on the playground/woodchips/field they need to HAVE snow pants and boots on.
