What's next?
- We received donations from all 50 states, so our students earned a pajama day!
- Dr. Blake and Mrs. Burke will get slimed during a Miller Rally on November 4. Stay tuned for pics!
- Because we surpassed our goal, we will take another whole school field trip (if we can work out the logistics)! So excited!
- We will order some cafeteria furniture soon! We think our students will LOVE it!

Safety Shout-Outs
Midlothian ISD is continuously striving to maintain safety protocols to ensure all staff and students remain safe throughout the school day. Some changes that have taken effect this school year include the Raptor scanning that takes place for all events now. We know this was initially an inconvenience for families, but it has provided an extra layer of protection to our students and staff. In addition, classroom doors now remain locked all throughout the school day.
Students at Miller participate in safety drills in accordance with our district expectations, including lockdown drills. A lockdown drill is practiced, so students understand the expectations if they ever need to hide from an intruder. With practice, students understand the expectations and get to their spots quickly and quietly--even our little people. We will practice this drill again in the middle of the year. We've also had our first fire drill of the year, which included our Coleman students, and we were all out of the building in 3 minutes. That's impressive!
Counselor's Corner
Students are currently learning about empathy in their character education lessons. We are discussing that empathy is understanding and connecting to other people's feelings. You can continue the conversation at home by modeling empathy, praising empathetic responses at home or pointing out empathy in television shows. Red Ribbon Week starts on October 24th. We will start the week with a Red Ribbon Pep Rally. REACH Council will be joining us during our special time on October 28th, to teach a Red Ribbon themed lesson for each grade level.
