Canton High School Newsletter

We are beyond the halfway point in term 1!
CHS teacher Mr. Eromin named MCSS Teacher of the Year!
Our Social Studies Department Chair Mr. Patrick Connor (fourth from the left) submitted the recommendation and recently shared this great news at a CHS faculty meeting as well as the most recent School Committee meeting.
CHS receives The First Day Film Grant
We were able to facilitate an advanced screening for students not participating in Testing Day on 10/13, and will be utilizing this resource with all students throughout the year. We are also thrilled to be bringing Chris to CHS next September; his in-person assemblies are even more powerful than the videos.
Four CHS seniors serving as Representatives to the School Committee
The four Student Representatives to the School Committee are:
Madeline Pushard, Suraj Ramanathan, Joshua Ribisi-Chan, and Hannah Wang.
Handbook Highlights- importance of arriving on time
We will be featuring sections of the CHS Handbook periodically in our Newsletter. This is to highlight items of particular interest or those that we notice are coming as a surprise to students.
This Handbook Highlight features our attendance policy specific to morning arrivals. It is important for students to arrive at school on time so as not to miss class time and run the risk of disciplinary consequences for continued tardiness. We realize the traffic can be unpredictable so it is important that all students (and parent/guardian drivers) plan accordingly to ensure a timely arrival.
News from the Nursing Team- upcoming screenings
Our annual screenings are planned for 9th and 10th-grade students during their Wellness classes starting October 25 and will continue until completed. If your child has Wellness in semester 2, those screenings will begin in mid-January.
9th-grade students will be having postural screenings. Female students are asked to wear a 2-piece bathing suit or halter-like sports top under their clothing to school the day of the screening. The male students will remove their shirts for screening. This permits more accurate observation of the back. All screenings are done individually, in the privacy of the nurse's office.
10th-grade students will be having hearing and height/weight screenings.
If your child has any unusual findings, we will send home a referral form for them to follow up with their physician or specialist. If nothing unusual is found during the screening, you will not be contacted. However, if you are interested in the results of the screening, please call the Health Office.
These are state-mandated screenings, but you may opt your child out of the screening by contacting the health office in writing or via email at campbellm@cantonma.org or trendellc@cantonma.org. Please make sure to follow up with your pediatrician so that they can complete the screening at their office. If you have any questions, please contact the health office at 781-821-5050 x2110.
