NEWS FROM THE NEST
September 2022
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!
Our opening enrollment is 298 students in grades K-5. This is down slightly from last fall. Usually we add some students after the Labor Day holiday.
There is a lot of information in this newsletter, so keep it handy as a resource. Each month you will receive a school newsletter in this format. Please let me know if there is something that you would like to see in it that may not be in this issue.
We look forward to working with you to make this year amACEing!

NEW starting & ending times
- The building will open for students at 7:50 AM. If you need childcare before that, please call the Boys & Girls Club (information below). Students should not come earlier than 7:50.
- All students will enter door 12 (main door). Parents do not walk students into the building.
- The school day starts at 8:05 AM. Students arriving after this time will be tardy.
- The end of the school day is 2:27 PM. If you need childcare after this time, please call the Boys & Girls Club. Students cannot be at school after this time without supervision.
FREE SCHOOL BREAKFAST & LUNCH MEALS ENDED JUNE 2022
A waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has enabled schools across the nation, including Fargo Public Schools, to provide all students free meals since the COVID-19 pandemic first disrupted K – 12 education in March of 2020. The free school meal benefits will expire after the last school day of the 2021 – 2022 school year.
What does this mean for families? In the fall of 2022, meals will return to paid-for status. Families will need to pay full price for student meals or fill out an application to qualify for free or reduced price meals. Applications for the 2022-2023 school year will be available starting July 1, 2022. Applications will be available on the Nutrition Services Department website after that date and will be shared at the start of the 2022-23 school year with families.
Students need to have money in their SchoolPay account to purchase meals at school. They use their ID number to purchase from their account.
Breakfast $1.45
- Available for purchase each morning as students enter the building. It is a grab and go style option which includes milk if they choose. Students bring this to their classroom to eat.
Lunch $2.45
- Students that want to eat school lunch would have a scheduled lunch time with the other students at their grade level. There is a hot and cold lunch option each day. The menus can be found here. Students are welcome to bring a lunch from home if they choose and a milk can be purchased for $0.40.
Snack
Eagles participates in the Fresh Fruit & Vegetable program which is provided to students FREE of charge 4 days a week (Tuesday-Friday). The students get one serving of the fruit/vegetable. There is not a menu for this service. It is a great way for students to try things! Each classroom teacher has a plan for snack in their classroom and students may bring additional individual snacks. If finances are challenging and your child needs a snack at school, please call our counselor Mrs. Larson at 701-446-3966.

HOLIDAYS, BIRTHDAY INVITATIONS & SCHOOL RECOGNITION
BIRTHDAYS:
- Invitations for birthday parties should NOT be sent to school to pass out. The only exception is if every student in your child's classroom/grade level is invited.
- If your child would like to share a special treat with their classrooms on their birthday, they are welcome to. Please ask your child's classroom teacher if there are an dietary needs or allergies to be aware of. Treats can be dropped off in the office and we will help to get them to the classroom. Store bought treats are recommended for the safety of all students.
- When it is a student's birthday, their name is said on the announcements and they will receive a card/trinket from the office that is delivered by their teacher.
