Charleroi Art Students Receive Awards
Mr. Camut's art students have received recognition in the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, presented by Scholastic Art Awards of Southwestern Pennsylvania, for their following work(s):

This is a remarkable achievement for Mr. Camut and his students. Their works were recognized by a panel of creative professionals and educators as the most outstanding work submitted among their peers.

Next Steps: these works for will be included in the Scholastic Art Awards of
Southwestern Pennsylvania Exhibit and bring them to the Mandarino Library (Cal U ) on Friday, January 20 from 3 pm to 6 pm or on Saturday, January 21 from 9 am to noon.

Middle School Science Teacher Awarded McDonalds (Make Activities Count) MAC Grant
Mr. Howard Johnson, congratulations again on being a recipient of the 2016 MAC grant for $538. he will be presented with the check on February 3rd at the Middle School.
McDonald’s Southern Nevada owner/operators are now accepting applications from local educators for its Make Activities Count (MAC) Grants program. A total of $30,000 will be awarded to 60 local teachers to help fund educational initiatives during the 2016-2017 school year.
McDonald’s MAC Grants are available to all Southwestern Pa schools grades K-8 and give local teachers an opportunity to apply for up to $500 in grant money. The funds can be used to help support unique and interesting learning experiences like science experiments, music appreciation and health initiatives.
McDonald’s owner/operators will review all of the applications and select those that offer the most unique and exceptional learning experience for the students.
PDE "Farm to School Grant" awarded to Mr. Johnson - Middle School Science Teacher
We are pleased to inform you that Mr. Johnson has been awarded a Pennsylvania “Farm to School.” mini-grant. The approved funding amount is $1,000.00, pending completion of all mini-grant requirements. These funds are federal funds administered through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), Division of Food and Nutrition in partnership with Project PA (a collaboration between PDE and Penn State University.)
Congratulations Mr. Johnson on a successful mini-grant application.
Charthene January Student of the Month
Charleroi Student Qualifies for Regional Choir
Erik Miller, a Senior at Charleroi, had an audition on January 12, for Western PA Regional Choir. Erik placed 9th out of 22 boys thus qualifying him for regional choir!!!! This is the first Charleroi choral student in many years to make this ensemble. The Choir Festival is at Gateway HS February 22-24th. Way to go Erik, we are proud of you.

Congratulations to Charleroi Middle School Family and Consumer Science teacher, Lorraine Sciacca-Finch for being nominated as a finalist for the “Champions of Learning” teaching award.
The Champions of Learning Awards Dinner will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017. This event is a celebration that recognizes teachers who have dedicated their time, talents, and resources to create and expand learning opportunities for our youth.

Cost of Cyber Charters
According to the public school advocacy group Public Citizens for Children and Youth, cyber charter education is now nearly a half-billion dollar industry in the commonwealth. The
PCCY reports that school districts are contributing $450 million to 14
cyber charter schools in Pennsylvania.
