Outdoor Masking - Update
Dear Templeton Families,
In light of the rise of positive COVID cases, and the fact that the Omicron variant is highly transmissible, we are reinstating the expectation that students and staff wear their masks outdoors (including during recess). Per our original protocol, students can still take mask breaks outside under adult supervision. This will begin Friday, January 7th.
Our goal first and foremost is to ensure the safety of our Templeton community so we can continue in-person learning. We appreciate your cooperation with this change.

A Message from the Principal
Happy 2022! It was so wonderful to see the students re-entering the Templeton doors following winter break. We continue to draw strength from the energy coming from the classrooms as we navigate the uncertainties of the Omicron variant. In partnership, we can continue to problem solve together to overcome the barriers created by COVID 19.
With a new year often comes the tradition of setting resolutions. While this tradition works well for some, for others, resolutions feel too regimented. Instead of resolutions, consider engaging in regular goal setting with your kids. Goal setting throughout the year is a way of life. It’s about doing something on a consistent basis to create positive habits and successful routines that help us to achieve the results we are looking for. Most importantly, it’s about continually evolving and growing flexibly throughout the year.
Flexible goal setting is the kind of thinking we need to instill in our children.. Here are five tips to help your student learn how to set and achieve goals:
1. Learn how to foster a growth mindset.
- Focus on your child’s strengths, progress, and the process of learning. Notice the small steps your child takes towards achieving their personal best.
- Work with your child to isolate personal and academic goals within intervals throughout the year.
- Start small and set attainable goals.
- A simple monthly calendar is an easy way for a child to keep track of successes. They can jot down one way they made progress.
- Have your child select a goal and then monitor progress each day or week using a simple checklist or line graph to document their performance.
- Journaling is a relaxing way to get children to reflect on their effort to reach valuable goals. Children may jot down their thoughts about their learning experiences for the day or the week.
Regardless of whether you make New Year’s resolutions or engage in goal setting, helping children understand that striving to be life-long learners builds confidence and opens up a world of opportunities that one may not have ever imagined. Dream big!

Attendance Matters
Attendance is important for all learners! School success goes hand in hand with good attendance! Did you know:
• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school-and themselves. Start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and at work.

Welcome back! School expectations!
Reviewing school routines and rules is key to success! We will be reviewing our schoolwide expectations with students across ALL school settings the first week back in January 2022. Please ask your student what they learned and what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to be Safe, Kind, and Responsible across Templeton. Please refer to our Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports handbook for more information.
