As a reminder, Presidents’ Day is tomorrow, and Midview Local Schools will be closed in observance of the holiday. Mostly appreciated as an extra day off of work, this holiday is meant to honor all of our nation’s presidents, past and present. It is the perfect opportunity to talk to our Midview students about our presidents, their role in government, and the electoral process. Like many of the discussion topics in our classrooms, it can be a shared learning experience and lead to interesting conversations at home (and maybe even a family competition of who can name the most presidents)!

With the fourth and final quarter on the horizon, families are encouraged to attend our last round of parent-teacher conferences. Meet with teachers to better understand what your child is learning at school, their academic and social-emotional progress, and what you can do to support them. If we all continue to work together, our students will have great success through the end of the 2023-24 school year! Please check your building newsletters or web page for conference dates and scheduling information.

On a final note, and on behalf of the Midview community, I wish our winter athletes good luck as they enter the final weeks of their seasons. Many of our athletes and teams will compete in championships and tournaments in the following days and weeks. Please visit the athletics website for scheduling and show your support!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of the Midview Local School District. I look forward to another exciting week on the Midview campus!

Take care,

Dr. Bruce Willingham

A Few Notes About the Substitute Levy A Few Notes About the Substitute Levy

Substitute Levy Issue Number

The district recently received our issue number for the upcoming May 2 election. The substitute levy will be referred to as Issue #4!

Financial History Timeline

As we approach May 2, we thought it may be important to share our district's levy history with the community.

Midview Local School District seeks to offer an excellent educational experience for our students while being conscious of the financial impact on our residents. By engaging in proactive planning and cost-saving measures, Midview has been able to avoid asking residents for new money since 2013. Prior to that, the district's last levy for new money was in 1993. Over the last 20 years, the district's financial history illustrates our commitment to utilizing taxpayer dollars responsibly. This, coupled with the continued support of our community, has made today possible for our district!

Voter Registration

It's important that our Midview families and friends exercise their right to vote. Every vote is impactful. If you, your family, or your friends are not registered to vote - it is never too late to do so! Voting is one important way that we can participate in our democracy, and registering to vote is simple. In preparation for the May 2 election, voters must be registered by April 3. Registration can be completed:

  1. In person at the Lorain County Board of Elections office, located at 1985 North Ridge Road E., Sheffield Township.

  2. Online at olvr.ohiosos.gov

  3. By mail, so long as it’s postmarked by April 3.

Stopit Solutions

Should your student experience bullying or hear of others who are experiencing bullying, please remember that the best course of action is to, first, contact your building administrator by email or phone. Staff and administration work diligently to address and correct situations as they happen, but we also rely on our students and parents/guardians to bring situations to our attention when necessary.

The district also partners with STOPit Solutions. STOPit is a desktop and mobile app reporting tool designed to deter and mitigate bullying, cyber abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors. STOPit has two simple but powerful features:

  • Report can be used by students to report incidents to school contacts anonymously.
  • Messenger can be used to engage in anonymous two-way communication with school contacts.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work together to maintain a culture of kindness!

GeoAlerts Now Available on Stopfinder

As you know, this year Midview Transportation has been using the new parent app, Stopfinder. We are excited to share that one of its features, GeoAlerts, is now available for use! GeoAlerts allow parents/guardians to create alert zones and receive notifications when their student’s bus enters or leaves an area. We hope this additional feature proves useful in tracking and timing your child’s journey to and from school.

Please visit our Transportation web page or watch this short video for a step-by-step guide on how to set up GeoAlerts. As always, please contact the Transportation Department should you have any questions.

Midview Local School District is thankful for the men and women that work each day to care for our buildings and grounds - our Maintenance Department! Cleaning to repairing, delivering to mowing, their commitment to maintaining a campus that our staff, students, and community can take pride in never waivers.

Maintenance Facts:

  • Roughly 80-100 acres are cared for by grounds maintenance. Mowing, landscaping, asphalt maintenance, sports field maintenance and striping, snow removal, and salting all help keep our grounds in tip-top shape!
  • In total, our custodians clean over 445,000 sq. feet of buildings daily. This includes emptying trash, disinfecting and sanitizing rooms, and cleaning up after events and athletic competitions.
  • Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and internal/external repairs are also part of the general upkeep of our buildings.
  • The maintenance department also handles the district's shipping and receiving (supply orders, deliveries and stocking, food runs, etc.).
  • In the winter months, buildings are checked over the weekend to ensure the weather hasn't caused internal or external damage. In case of snowfall, staff are on call 24 hours for plowing and salting purposes.
  • Eight of our maintenance team members have over ten years of service at Midview Local Schools!

To our head building custodians, hourly custodians, maintenance workers, shipping and receiving, maintenance secretary, and maintenance director - thank you for all you do!
