Harmony Tigers...Changing Trends!
A Message from the Principal
Dear HSS Parents and Guardians,
I would like to take the time to offer Congratulations to our 4th grade student, Spandana Palyam! Spandana received the award of 1st Runner Up in the Austin Family Magazine's 2017 Young Writers Contest. Her award was received based on her essay entry on: "It seemed like a good idea at the time." Spandana's essay will appear in the December 2017 issue of Austin Family Magazine. We hope to have a copy to distribute for everyone to read and enjoy.
We hosted representatives from Austin Family Magazine on campus today to present this wonderful award to Spandana. We would also like to the recognize Ms. Smailes, her Language Arts teacher for noticing the gift of delightful writing skills possessed by Spandana. Also present were members of Spandana's family including her mother, brother as well as her teachers Ms. Smailes, Ms. Smith and her 4th grade classmates.
We encourage Spandana to keep up the great work. We also hope this recognition will encourage all HSS-Austin students to reach for the stars and do their best to achieve their goals. Congratulations Spandana, we are all so very proud of you!
Mr. Mehmet Subas, M.Ed.
Principal | Harmony School of Science - Austin
Great job Ms. Smith and Ms. Smailes!

A Message from Your Engagement Coordinator!
1st grade went on a field trip to the Science Mill in Johnson City, Texas! The Science Mill is a children's STEM based museum with highly interactive exhibits. Students watched a movie about animals in the Arctic and participated in a learning lab where they engineered a successful zip line.
The children's STEM based museum offers exhibits for all students to enjoy and learn from. Students gained an understanding of how Science relates to their everyday lives while having some fun! Some activities included students using a coding program to create computerized movements for the robotic animals as well as creating tunes by playing on a banana piano!
Thank you to our 1st grade teachers and the parents that served as chaperones so that our students could experience this enjoyable event. A big thank you to Ms. Mazuca for coordinating this innovative field trip. Enjoy a few pictures from this fun day!
