Welcome to 2nd Grade!
Summer 2021
A Message from Your 2nd Grade Teachers!
Dear Parents,
We are so excited to meet our new Second Graders! We have so many wonderful activities planned for the school year! Summer is a perfect time for children to practice their reading skills. In fact, recreational reading is one of the best ways for children to maintain and enhance their reading skills over the summer months. We are asking your child to read independently, or paired reading or even be read to, ‘Mercy Watson to the Rescue’ by Kate DiCamillo during the summer. To correspond with your child’s reading, we have attached a writing assignment packet. We ask that your child return this assignment to his/her teacher the first week of school.
Additionally, we will be using the IXL Math Program to ensure students receive a small daily dose of math practice in order to retain math skills learned during the school year. We ask that your child spend at least 6 total hours on math skills. This skills practice does not need to be completed in any certain order, but we do suggest practice in all areas provided. While it is best to revisit all skills, if your child is easily mastering a skill, we have offered the option for him/her to practice Second Grade skills. Please take a look at the IXL MATH PROGRESS TRACKER for First Grade Skills and behind it you will find the Second Grade Skills Tracker. As your child completes a skill, please have them color in the corresponding box on the Progress Tracker. These sheets will be collected the first week of school.
We hope that you have a wonderful and safe summer, and look forward to seeing you in September!
Warm Regards,
The Second Grade Teachers
