Hallinan Elementary
Hawk Squawk - 9/17/20
Principal's Message
The last week has been challenging! The added stress of the wildfires, evacuations and hazardous air quality has been an unexpected disruption to an otherwise very unusual school start. We so appreciate your patience and flexibility as we navigate our way in providing a safe learning environment for your children.
We've initiated some changes this week in how we allow student access to our Seesaw and Google classrooms. If your child is having difficulty accessing their online classrooms please try the following:
- authenticate your student's Gmail account: Please click here for a new link to step-by-step instructions.
- please fill out a tech support work order ticket at https://losdhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
- contact your teacher or the office staff
We know email fatigue exists - we're all right there with you - but please make sure to prioritize reading the emails your child's teacher sends out. These communications are packed full of information including weekly schedules, expectations and helpful tips.
Please remember, teachers, staff and I are all here to assist and support you. Please reach out to us if you need help.
Thinking of you all and sending a big Hallinan Heart - stay safe!
Principal Griffiths

Back to School Night 10/8 (Virtual)
Back to school night is an event for principals and teachers to welcome you back to school, introduce ourselves, and present key information for the year. This year is unlike any other and due to state restrictions, we cannot all be together as we would like. Instead, we'll 'social distance' Back to School Night by creating videos for you to watch in the comfort of your own home. On 10/8, your teacher will share two videos with you via email or google classroom, one from me and one from them. Please reach out directly to your student's teacher if you have questions after viewing the videos.

What is i-Ready?
Over the next six weeks, elementary and middle school students will complete two on-line i-Ready assessments; one is for math and the other is for reading. i-Ready is a program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform and tailor instruction to accelerate growth. We will conduct these assessments three times per year, and results will be shared with parents.
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. Please view this two-minute introductory video, Intro Video to iReady for Families
Our elementary schedule will begin with students in Grades 3-5; math will be first, and then reading. Primary students need more time to get settled into the school routine, and their i-Ready assessments will begin in October.
Hallinan Renovation Update
Despite all that has been thrown at us, our renovation continues on.... just at a slightly slower pace. The fires and hazardous air conditions have definitely impacted the Hallinan renovation. While it continues on, the pace has slowed to ensure the safety of everyone. Entry canopy framing is nearing completion; lights and electrical trim are being installed; and, technology upgrades are being installed with additional wireless access points. We look forward to being back in the building!
Additional information can be found on the Bond website here.
