Bright Futures ~ New Name for ECSE Title I Students!

Due to changes made in how we can use / braid Title I funding with other programs, we are using all Title I funds with our new classroom. This means that we are no longer able to call our at-risk students in the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) blended classrooms "Title I students", since they are funded through the ECSE grant. Clear as mud? :)

We came up with a variety of options including Bright Futures, ELITE (Early Leaders in Training Education), etc. Kudos to Dr. Daniels who helped brainstorm ideas for the program! The Building Leadership Team met last night and decided on "Bright Futures" as the name of this program.

I will work with our Communications Department to work on a communication plan, so we can educate our families about the name change. The Bright Futures students will go through the same screening and eligibility process as our Title I students.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Action Plans

The Employee Cadre will begin working on the following areas:

1. SUPPORT STAFF: How staff would like to be recognized for their work

2. SUPPORT STAFF: Ideas for how to provide more opportunities to share innovative ideas and best practices

3. ALL STAFF: Professional Development needed for all staff on managing difficult behaviors - this will be done through the PBIS committee

Action plans will be developed on each of these areas, which will require more information needed from you. :) Data will be collected through our Staff Suggestion Box on ideas you have to increase each of these areas. I will place these in your boxes - please place in the suggestion box. The Employee Cadre will then meet on February 9th at 3:50 to start reviewing data and developing the plans. We would LOVE for support staff to join us for this meeting, as we need your ideas for improvements. Please RSVP to Dr. Currey.

Bid List Items for Fall 2015

Each year a classroom budget is assigned for each classroom, therapist and support staff member (Irene, Allison, Tracy, Julie). A portion of that is used for the Bid List items and the rest is the amount classrooms have to order the following year for instructional materials. After a review of the process, it seemed that teachers felt they had to order the full amount of money allotted for the bid list (with items they really didn't need), or they would lose those funds for their classroom. It is actually quite the opposite. To help with efficiency of supplies ordered and to ensure we are using our classroom budgets for instructional based materials, we've made a process improvement for next year.

Each faculty member will be provided their total amount for their classroom budget- it will be up to you to decide if you want to use it towards the bid list or not. Mandi will be sending these out soon. Please note that any items on the bid list you need SHOULD come from the bid list, because they are at a discounted rate. Unfortunately, we don't always receive the bid on certain items, so you can still order those items from another vendor after July 1st. Whatever is remaining will be the classroom budget for the following year. (Note: items purchased from the bid list come out the following fiscal year, which is why this is the case. So, any items ordered from the bid list this year will come out of our 2015-2016 budgets).

I hope this clarifies how the bid list items come from your classroom budgets. I know it can be confusing, so please feel free to stop by and we can chat further. Just a reminder that all supply requests are subject to approval of the administrator to ensure it is aligning to our BSIP and curricular goals.

Employee Picture Needed!

We are creating a visual map for all of the employees in the building. We have grown so much this year and have many new faces, the Building Leadership Team thought this would be a good way to learn names / faces from everyone in the different programs.

Mandi and April will be coming around to take your picture on Tuesday morning.
