Academy of the Arts at Bransom
December 18-22 (School Days 78-82)
A Note From Your Principal
Our students have made tremendous progress during the first semester and we are sure that the assessments done after the first of the year will prove it. All students will do another round of M.A.P. testing so that we can compare mid-year scores with the beginning of the year scores. It is very important that your child continues to read during their break so that what they have learned will not be forgotten. Believe us when we say that children forget new concepts easily when they do not rehearse them regularly (meaning daily.) So read, read, read to them, with them and around them. Also talk about what you are reading. That is important to build comprehension skills. Playing close attention to vocabulary development, making predictions, and inferring are three important skills you can build through asking good questions.
Do you have an idea about what that new word means? What was your clue?
What do you think is going to happen next? Why do you think that?
What clues did you read that gave you that idea?
Another great skill that can be supported at home is writing. It may be a little late for Christmas cards but it is not too late for "Thank You" cards. During the holidays your child will probably receive things from friends and/or family members. A heartfelt note from a child would mean so much to those who cared enough to give. Even Santa would appreciate a note of appreciation.
In closing I wanted to encourage everyone to find some way to support the school's efforts to collect items for the victims and first-responders involved in the California wildfires. Please see the flyer below for the specifics of the collection. You have done a great job to support so many this first semester but the needs are great in our state and nation so let's not stop now. Thanks in advance for your support of these efforts created by a Bransom student.
Please continue to read about some of the awesome things our students have done in the past week and the important things to come in the next few days. There are some attire changes for the week so take heed.
All the best to you and yours,
Mrs. Burchfield
