This week in school
Is it Spring, Summer or Winter?
Snow and ice in April? Well the weather seems to be reflecting the madness of the world right now!
The children have enjoyed some sweltering playtimes on the field in their bubbles, but the hot afternoons have followed freezing conditions in the mornings. I've even had to scrape ice off my car windows three times this week - it's supposed to be Spring!
The work in classrooms has been great this week and the children are enjoying lots of fresh air and new topics. We are still working hard to catch up in lessons and mend friendship bridges where children have lost touch with each other over the last few months, but by and large we are pretty proud of our progress.
We hope you'll appreciate some semblance of normality in the reintroduction of normal homework and reading book routines. Plans for socially distanced fund raising projects and events are developing and I'm sure the nicer weather will help us in that respect.
Onwards and upwards - thank you for your continued support.
Have a really lovely weekend everyone!

Stars
It has been a very busy week in Nursery, as we welcome our new starters. A big well done to our existing Stars who have really helped the new children settle in and learn our routines. This week we have looked at the theme of ‘Caterpillars and Butterflies’. The children have enjoyed hearing and watching the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ by Eric Carle. We have created our own beautiful butterflies, developed our hand muscles by weaving ribbon in and out of minibeasts, counted the different types of fruit that the Hungry Caterpillar ate and made and eaten our own fruit kebabs. The children have also explored our new ‘Nature Detectives Hut’, which was kindly donated by one of the families in school.
FS/Y1
It’s so lovely to see the children back in school after the holidays. We’ve had a busy week looking at our wonderful world. We have practiced our skills in place value, written about our holidays, talked about protecting the world and created some outside art.
Year 2
What a super start we have had to the new term! We have launched our new topic, 'Wheels, Wings and Moving Things'. With a Design Technology focus, we are investigating vehicles and have begun to share the story, 'Mrs Armitage on Wheels'. We have had fun planning and writing a character description of Mrs Armitage and practising using expanded noun phrases and similes. In Maths we have been re-capping different strategies to use when solving addition and subtraction problems.
Year 3
Year 4
In Year 4, we have taken advantage of this week's beautiful weather to launch our new topic, Our Changing World, outside. Enthusiasm and teamwork were clearly evident as the children searched for, discussed and recorded information in a volcano treasure hunt. With enquiring minds, the children asked many questions, which we will research and investigate during the coming weeks.
The excitement continued as we watched footage of recent, worldwide, volcanic eruptions in preparation for writing in English. We are looking forward to creating vivid descriptions which show the power of nature, while enhancing our writing skills.
Year 5/6
This week in year 5/6, we have begun our new class novel - Holes! Using this as the inspiration, we have completed various grammar tasks that will be used to build a short narrative, next week. We have looked at data in maths and used this to find answers to questions or create our own graphs. In our topic, we have begun to explore the Americas; finding their locations, interesting facts and the valuable natural resources they possess. Well done year 5/6, you are back with a bang!
