Resources for Families regarding Bullying and Cyberbullying

The National Institutes of Health recognizes bullying as a significant public health problem. In the social media era, harassment and intimidation take place both offline and on, which amplifies the severity of aggression and stress in children and their parents. Children’s Hospital has made available this 15 minute “Just Kids Health” episode on Bullying & Cyberbullying to help parents understand bullying behaviors and how to address signs of bullying and prevent it. To best support our students, Westside is pleased to provide system-wide, bullying prevention programming to tackle bullying behavior.

PBiS at Hillside and the Skill of the Week

PBiS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. This is our school wide (and district wide) method for supporting student positive behavior and success at school. Each week, we introduce or review a behavior skill for that week. This helps students to continue to grow their behavior skills each week.

Hillside emphasizes the "3-Be's"

We want all students to know how to be safe, respectful, and responsible, not only while at school, but in their life!

The Skill of the Week for 1/9 - 1/13/23 is:

Working with Others

When you work well with others, you:

  • Identify the task to be completed
  • Assign tasks to each person
  • Discuss ideas in a calm, quiet voice and let everyone share ideas
  • Work on tasks to be completed

We will be working on the above skill all week!

A Big THANK YOU to our STEAM Day Volunteers!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to our wonderful volunteers at Hillside's rescheduled STEAM Day! The students truly enjoyed this wonderful day of science/engineering/math/technology activities. It was so great to walk around to see what was going on, from exploring weather in the arctic to launching student-made rockets.

Thank you, also, to our STEAM Team and to Mrs. Kenny and to Mr. Mueller, in particular, for heading up STEAM Day organzation.

Supporting Your Student's Reading Skills at Home

The Institute of Education Sciences has developed a website for families to support their student at home with reading: Supporting Your Child’s Reading at Home

It is important, as families are able, to continue at home the literacy learning that happens at Hillside. Thanks, families, for all you do!
