Things to Be Aware of:
- Students will have the opportunity if they would like to participate in the Kelly Canyon Ski School Program through the coming weeks. For the next three Fridays (weather dependent on snow), students can go to Kelly Canyon on a bus that will leave from RMMS for night skiing from 5:00-9:00 pm. On February 9th, they will have the opportunity to be gone from school for the day to ski at Kelly Canyon. A permission slip, fee sheet, and liability form can be picked up by students from Mrs. Belnap in the office. By clicking on the links provided, you can also print the sheets from home, fill them out, and have your child return them. All fees need to be paid and forms returned by the Wednesday of the week they are planning to go, and for the day-long trip, a student's grades would need to be C's or better by the Tuesday before the 9th. Students that would like to go, but do not want to ski, are still welcome to attend; they will just pay the busing fee and complete the permission slip and fee sheet. There will also be opportunities for parents to assist and volunteer in the rental shop, handing out lift tickets, assisting in the lodge, etc. to help make this successful. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Mr. Jeff Kenly, one of our teachers, or Mrs. Kalli Belnap, our bookkeeper.
- Students may still purchase a Yearbook through the month of January. The last day to purchase will be Thursday, February 1. Yearbooks are $22.00 and are completely optional. If your child is unsure if they have already purchased one or not, there will be a list with our bookkeeper Mrs. Belnap in the office that can be checked.
- Several scientists and colleagues at the INL will be piloting a new "Girls Who Code" club here at RMMS, the only school in our region to receive such an opportunity! The club will be meeting on Wednesdays after school with the program running about 10 weeks overall. If all goes well, they will restart the program and run trimester to trimester. Since this will be a new pilot program, if you have a daughter that would be interested in learning more about digital coding and programming, have them talk with a teacher on their team for a nomination.
- UPCOMING PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES: On Wednesday, January 31, RMMS will be holding their parent/teacher conferences (PTC) from 5 - 8 pm here at the school. In the past, PTC has been held over two nights. For second and third trimester, it will only be held on one night. As you come into the main commons of the school, your child's grades, schedule, a school map, and BINGO sheet will be waiting in a folder to be picked up as done in the past, sorted by your child's advisory teacher. For this conference, teachers will be in their individual rooms for you to visit with as needed. If you have a child with a classroom in our upstairs area and feel uncomfortable making it up the stairs, teachers will be prepared to come down and visit with you on the main floor. If your child does not accompany you to the conference, we will have maps to assist in locating classes, along with staff available throughout the building to direct and answer questions.
- As you can tell, the temperature is dropping and winter is upon us. For your information, we are required to complete one fire drill randomly per month. Please remind your child to dress warmly as they will not be stopping by their lockers as they exit the building. If possible, layers are key for them to stay warm while outside. We always try to complete these drills as efficiently and quickly as we can.
