GMBA Highlight of the Month - "Solo" by Kwame Alexander
Every month we highlight one of the nominees for the Green Mountain Book Award, Vermont's student choice award for high school students. All Vermont high school students who read at least 3 of the selections will be eligible to vote for the winner in May.
This month's selection is Solo by Kwame Alexander. Blade, the son of a rockstar, narrates this YA novel in verse. Though his drug-addicted father stresses him out, Blade has his guitar and his girlfriend to keep him centered. An over-the-top escapade by his father sends Blade on a quest to see if he can get some answers about his life and re-center himself. This is a fast moving story about music and love that is great to listen to or read. Here is a video of Alexander describing his book.

This database, like all others we subscribe to, will provide you immediate access while on campus. When you are at home, you will need the username and password, which can be found in “OnCampus Resources,” in the “Library” section. This tutorial shares searching tips and explains other features and tools of this database.
