STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Our staff spotlight this month is on our school Principal, Mrs. Guzman, who also celebrates her birthday this month. The first thing we had to ask about was her favorite books. She says, "I love all of the Junie B. Jones Series and Skippy Jon Jones! Junie B. is the funniest little girl that I love and Skippy Jon Jones is a crazy funny cat that I love to read about, but the book I love the most is I Love You Forever. It's a beautiful story about the love between a mother and child. Makes me tear up every time I read it. I use to read it to my kids when they were little." In addition to loving books, Mrs. Guzman also loves movies. She says, "I am a huge movie buff. I love to watch a variety of movies but if I had to choose my ultimate favorite movie, it would be Sixteen Candles. Love the soundtrack too!" When I ask her what she did during the pandemic, she says, "I kept busy like always, but my favorite hobby was to read and spend time with my family. Together we watched a lot of movies and built many puzzles together. My latest discovery is the coolest ideas on TikTok! I love to watch videos on creating designs for your home or artwork on a budget, and of course, I love music and dancing so I really enjoy videos on that as well." When I asked her about her favorite superhero, she said, "If you know me well, you know that of course I love Wonder Woman! She fights crime and always looks beautiful doing so." When I ask her about school mascots, she says, "I've been many mascots if I include my schools growing up and schools I've taught and led at. Some include: Bears, Seahawks, Bulldogs, Eagles, Tigers, Coyotes, Koalas, Stars, Colts and now Mt. Lions." Awesome mascots! When I asked her about her own pets, she said "dogs are my favorite and I've had 2. My tiger-striped Boxer's name was Cinto. He recently passed away at the age of 14. He was such a beautiful and caring dog. My other dog is an English Bulldog. His name is Milo. He loves to play and is 10 years old." Sorry about your loss, Mrs. Guzman! Mrs. Guzman says she has always loved school! Awesome. Some schools she attended are: Riverside Community College, Cal State San Bernardino, Grand Canyon University, and Point Loma Nazarene University. My favorite courses in college always included Multi-Cultural Classes like Latin American Studies, Chicano Studies, and Spanish Linguistics." Sounds really interesting! Since she has studied for so long, she has great advice to share with students. She says, "The best academic advice I can give to all students is the following: There are times when you are going to want to give up, but please don't. The greatest rewards come from the challenges you overcome." When I ask her about what inspires her, she says: "Inspiration can be seeked out all around you, but what really inspires me the most is the joy and happiness I see on peoples faces after they've accomplished something good like; finishing college as a single young mother, learning a new strategy or skill and putting it into practice or even just completing a mission or goal you've set forth for yourself. Ultimately it is the heart that inspires me the most. If you truly love what you, who you are and life itself, happiness will exude and inspire others as well!"
Thank you Mrs. Guzman for all you do for Morris Elementary School. Happy Principal's Day and Happy Birthday!
