Definition

Distinctive style of poetry that uses system or pattern of metrical structure and verse composition and usually has fourteen lines arranged in a set scheme or pattern.

Main Styles

Italian sonnet: Part one- Octave 8 lines Rhyming pattern ABBAABBA Part two-Sestet 6 lines Rhyming pattern CDECDE or CDCCDC                                                                                English sonnet: 1st Quatrain- ABAB 2nd Quatrain- CDCD 3rd Quartrain- EFEF Couplet- GG
