Weekly Update

Dear Families,

This Thursday, January 31st marks our 100th day of school! So many wonderful things have happened in the past 100 days. Our Sorrick Cougars have come a long way! Many Pre-K students who walked into school unable to tell us their names now not only recognize their names in print, but can also tell us the letters in their names! Kindergarten students can count to 100 and add numbers within 10. First-grade students are able to read many books and write in complete sentences. We have made some outstanding progress this year! Let's keep up the good work.

Throughout the week, our Kindergarten and First-grade English Learners will continue taking the WIDA ACCESS assessment. This test is administered every year to all English Learners in grades K-12. The purpose of this assessment is to measure students' academic English language in four language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The results of this test provide us with valuable information about their progress toward English language proficiency and establishes a baseline to monitor their future growth. If your child is taking this assessment and you have any questions, please contact his or her Bilingual teacher.

This week, we have some exciting PBIS events for students. On Monday, classes with at least 10 Team Tickets will be participating in the "Winter Wonderland" Party! There will be 3 stations for students to rotate through including a reindeer ring toss, snowball buckets and puffy snowball fight. Students can also visit the "creative corner" to decorate snowflakes. On Friday, students will have an opportunity to spend their cougar paw tickets on items from the school store. We are excited to reward students for their positive behavior each day at Sorrick School!

5Essentials Survey for Parents

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey for parents will be available until February 15, 2019. This survey is to be completed by parents, guardians, or other caregivers with a child in grades pre-kindergarten through 12. The parent survey is available in both English and Spanish, and only takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. To take the survey please visit and select the appropriate survey to begin.

If you have more than one child and they attend the same school, you may elect to participate multiple times. For parents with children enrolled in multiple schools, we recommend that they participate in the survey for each school. Only one parent per household may participate in the survey.
