LRMS: Week at a Glance
January 11 - 15, 2016
Sayings from Sarah
And so, our first 20 days are under way. I hope you all managed to stay warm this past weekend - and the cold will continue throughout the coming days. Please continue to stay bundled and take care of your health --- and be on the lookout for students who might be suffering from a lack of some of the basics (warm clothes, heat, etc.) --- please refer any of these to the counselors, so that we can see how we might be able to assist. Thanks to all who submitted your 10-5-1(1) sheets; if you did not get it submitted Friday, please do so ASAP. And now, is the time to really begin "owning" these identified students -- to working to build their sense that they are being cared about and monitored and supported! As pre-testing is wrapping up, it is time to launch full force into TEACHING and LEARNING - and making the most of EVERY SINGLE moment. Our LSPI targeted Quality Plus Teaching Strategies -- along with our Instructional Framework of Gradual Release -- should be in action in every single classroom. If you need any support/training for ANY of these elements of our instructional design, please just ask. Our focus is SUCCESS for ALL -- teachers, students, our school, and our community! Remember . . this is OUR TIME -- together, we can make amazing things happen!!!! Thank you for your diligence and dedication -- you are an amazing group of educators!!!!
News You Can Use
1. KUDOS, CONGRATULATIONS, and GOOD NEWS! (please forward any "kudos" or "thanks" or "good news tidbits" to Sarah for inclusion in the next Week at a Glance)
Thanks to the following for AMAZING efforts at our Hard Lock-down Drill: Debian Montgomery, Stephen Bates, Cherell Davis-Thorpe, Andre Bevily, Cynthia Shobert, Terry Gentry, Scott Hartley, Lynn Winslow, Lillian Neal, ____ Wilson, Marica Findlator, Amy Winkeljohn, Marie Flint, Aminah Coleman, Lore Perez, Sarah Farr, Kelsi Carter. Tanesha Richardson, Karen Slough, Julie Wilkerson, Holli Krieger, Lauralie Connell, Sonia Henson, Jordyn Lavoie, Tara Raymond, and Anjannette Diaz! And a huge shout-out goes to the 7th grade for being the most consistent with implementation of the procedures and ensuring that everyone "stayed alive."
Kudos to Holly Hall and the Advisement Team for the great opening days' lessons -- and helping us all get off to a great start.
Kudos to Coach Nathan Martin and the 8th grade Boys Basketball Team for bringing home the first victory of the season again Pinckneyville MS!!
2. Slight Change to Next Week's Schedule
Due to circumstances beyond the local school, the Grade Level Assemblies will be held on Thursday, January 14 (NOT Wednesday, the 13th as originally scheduled). Directions will be forwarded for teachers to follow about getting students to the assemblies as well as details about how to prep the students for the assembly, what to expect during the assembly, and the follow-up for all after the assembly.
CATs that are typically held on Thursdays, will be held on Wednesday (the 13th) this week.
3. The First 20 Days
Each HR teacher (or Study Skills teacher) is expected to enact and make the most of the school-wide Study Skills and Advisement Lessons as they are shared throughout January (and beyond). It is imperative that ALL students are hearing the same information as we work to further the Radloff Way to include consistency in behaviors for Academic Expectations and help our students learn/understand/implement the behaviors, actions, and interventions necessary for each of them to find academic success in the short and long-term. Evaluators will be conducting Brief Observations during these lessons, monitoring for implementation.
4. Another Change at Radloff
I wish there were another way to share this information -- and I wish that this wasn't the case (for us!), but this will be Marcia Ellington-Lopez's last week as a Radloff Raider. Her husband has earned quite a nice promotion in his job, and the family is relocating to Chicago! The really great news for Marcia is that she, too, is gaining a promotion (*grin*)! This move will afford her the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom with those amazingly beautiful kids! While we will miss her in the classroom AND her MANY other contributions to our school, we certainly wish her the best!! Please take a moment and wish her well in this transition!
