Arctic Light K-8
Do Good Work, Be a Friend, Every Day - March 30th, 2020
Ft. Wainwright is CLOSED to Non-Essential Personnel
- Work with Jeff and Shawna to get important items to students: papers, textbooks, and Chromebooks.
- Pickup is weekdays 9-11am by the Gym entrance. No contact with parents, no entrance to anyone besides essential personnel, and no drop-off as of now.
- Currently, the pickup system is working very well. It depends on communication from teachers to families with enough time for Jeff and Shawna to retrieve and organize items.
Distance Delivery Education,
Remote Learning,
is for
Five Weeks.
We're getting further into this global pandemic.
I have friends who have been laid ill by this virus.
I imagine you have too.
BE SAFE. USE BEST PRACTICES. KEEP IN TOUCH.
Distance Delivery Education
Some Good Advice -
Just like in your classroom, spend time setting ground rules for your Distance Delivery Education (DDE better than DDT = Distance Delivery Teaching).
Here are a few ground rules for us - I imagine similar for your students:
- Be reasonably available. During work hours, be available for meetings and phone calls as things develop quickly.
- Complete assigned tasks or contact me for clarification. Complete your Learning Plans, grading, teaching, etc. or give me a call so we can talk it through.
- Build new forms of relationships. With some staff I've talked over the phone with them for the first time in four years.
- Use your teams. Your PLC team, Behavior Teams, and district-wide folks are here to help.
- Expect changes. We are moving into uncharted territory, expect things to change and need adjustments.

News:
- We have a First Grade teaching position open for next year - tell your friends to apply
- Distance Delivery Education is for five weeks
- Send your 'Live' educational times to Kelly and I. We need a chart showing everyone's 'Live' times. For many of you this is your ZOOM of Google Meet time.
- Invite me to your ZOOM/ Google Meet lesson. I need to observe your lessons and for Full-Danielson teachers I can do your observation during these 'Live' lessons.
- Do you have office hours? Some teachers, mostly high school, have office hours. This tries to focus your question and answer times an hour instead of parents/ students contacting you anytime of day.
- Some staff don't share their telephone numbers so 'office hours' allows for parent to join a ZOOM or Google Meet open time.
- Read Alouds during lunchtime is 'Enrichment' and fine outside the 8:30-10:30am learning block.
- Attendance - for your needs but not needed by district at this time
- Chromebooks can be sent home as well as textbooks. This is a soft roll-out with documentation required. Parents can find tech support at https://www.k12northstar.org/Page/7820 and email tech questions to: techsupport@k12northstar.org
