A Letter from Principal Montalvo

Dear Caldwell Heights Families,

We are super excited and ready to welcome back more students on Oct. 19th. If you selected in-person learning for the 2nd 9 weeks, please be on the look out for an email from your child's new teacher with information about returning to campus.

I am including all safety protocols and guidance for you to review with your child if they are attending campus on October 19th. We will continue to do what is in the best interest of all students academically while adhering to all safety protocols. We will continue to follow ALL social distancing measures we currently have in place.

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all. Thank-you for being flexible with all the changes in teachers and classrooms.

Here are the directions to set up your Home Access Account (HAC) so that you can see your student's progress and/or report cards for students in grades 3-5. The IPRs are already available under the tab in HAC.

Finally, please make sure to fill out a lunch application.

If your student is struggling to get their required asynchronous assignments completed, here is a checklist to help support your child. Remember, these assignments are required to be completed for grades.

I would like to put in a pitch for our PTA. We are eagerly looking for parents that would like to be a part of our PTA board. We have several teachers that have volunteered but would love for parents to work with us! Please email . if you are interested in partnering with us.

Parents of Virtual Learners...

Please be mindful of the following:

1. Your student needs to attend whole group and small group.

2. Your student needs to complete the required assignments

3.Please set up a good learning environment at home that is appropriate for learning and interacting with the teacher and classmates

4. Dress code is still in effect

5. Special areas and Spanish are being graded. So, please be checking each of these courses weekly for lessons and assignments for all K-5 students

6. Please remember that when your student is on synchronous instruction and the mic is on, everyone can hear what is happening in the background and any conversations that are held.

We so appreciate all the support that our parents are giving us in this new virtual learning environment. As we continue our virtual learning, please understand that it is the student that needs to be interacting on the Google Meet. Should you have any questions or concerns about the meet, please contact the teacher privately through email or a phone call.

Should there be any incidents in the virtual setting, our teachers have been trained to utilize the mute feature and /or remove a student for the duration of the session from the virtual classroom as appropriate to the situation. Similarly, if parents are interrupting the virtual lessons our teacher have been directed to utilize the same tools they have been trained on which include muting and removing the student from the classroom as appropriate to the situation. If you have a concern, please contact the teacher privately. We need to remember that the virtual classroom is still a classroom, and we must maintain professionalism at all times.

Grab & Go Library Book Pick Up Updates

Additional Pick Up Time: You can pick up the library books you request during car rider pick up on Tuesdays. Our librarian will be at the end of the car rider line by the portables to deliver your books.

New Book Request Option: Your child can use their library account to place holds on specific titles from our library. This video explains the process. Students will receive an email when the books are available for pick up.

A Reminder from Special Areas!

We wanted to remind you that Art, Music, PE, and Spanish courses are updated weekly on Schoology with lessons and assignments that count towards their grade for all K-5 students. Since these courses are asynchronous, students can log on at any time during the week to complete these courses in Schoology. Please be checking each of these courses weekly for lessons and assignments for all K-5 students

Our Special Area team is creating some fun and exciting activities to offer to our students. Introducing CHE Connections. These optional Google meets are offered to enrich your child's day. CHE Specialists will offer these optional enrichment classes weekly for kids. Drop in for an a PM session Monday - Thursday. On Fridays we will offer fun dance sessions in the PM. We have updated our school supply lists to reflect what students will need when we return for in-person classes. Feel free to use the supplemental resources we are handing our at our Supply Pick Up event as well as pencils and a notebook for virtual learning. We are excited about launching our year!

Did you check out a Chromebook?

Please bring your Chromebook AND charger, or your own device with your name on it everyday. We will be using our devices to access Schoology on a daily basis.


Masks will be expected to be worn throughout the day with the exception of eating. Please make sure to send a mask with your child daily.

Morning Arrival Procedures

Due to safety measures, we won't be able to allow visitors/parents to walk students into their classroom. We have several greeters to walk students to class and make sure they get where they need to be! Practice giving a kiss goodbye in the car or at the designated drop off area.

Car Riders

  • All car riders that will be eating breakfast will enter through the back door
  • All other car riders will be guided to their designated doors to go straight to class. 2-5 students will enter the building on Soar Street, and K-1st graders will enter the building at our door on University Blvd.
  • Our greeters will be encouraging social distancing and reminding students of the proper way to wear their masks. They will also ensure that all students get to their classroom safely.
Bus Riders
  • All of our bus riders that will be eating breakfast will enter through the front doorway.
  • All other bus riders will be guided to their designated doors to go straight to class. Prek-2 students will enter the building on Eagle Street, and 3rd-5th graders will enter the building at our LID entrance.
  • Our greeters will be encouraging social distancing and reminding students of the proper way to wear their masks. They will also ensure that all students get to their classroom safely.
  • Will enter the front or back door and be guided to their classroom.

We will be having a staggered dismissal in order to encourage social distancing. Our bus riders will be our first group that is dismissed. 1st and 3rd grade will exit through the front doors. Kinder and 4th grade will exit through the Eagle Street door, and 2nd and 5th grade will leave through the LID door. Our walkers are the next group that will be dismissed. They will leave through the front main doors. We ask that parents do not congregate at our front entrance. You are welcome to wait socially distancing on the sidewalk that is directly in front the LID exit where there is shade. Our car riders will be dismissed next. They will exit through our back main door in small groups. Our daycare students will be loaded into the vans in our front drive

What about Recess?

We are so excited to use our brand new playground! The playscapes are just amazing! We have zoned our playground area into 5 zones. This will ensure that classes are kept 75 feet apart. Students will rotate through the zones during the week.Students will be washing/sanitizing hands prior to coming outside and before entering the building.

Let's check out a Classroom!

Students will be required to wear face coverings. Desks are 6 feet apart. Each child will have their own designated space for their belongings. They will need to bring their own supplies to use. Unfortunately, sharing is not encouraged. However, if a student needs to borrow materials from their teacher they will need to place them in a "to be cleaned" bin at the end of the day.
