2-Day Tales
A Peek Inside Our Preschool Classroom
SCHOOL SAFETY
Yesterday, we conducted a school-wide safety drill with the children. We called it a "wind drill" and explained to the children that we are practicing moving to the safe place in our room, away from windows. In reality, it's an exercise to practice what we need to do should there ever be an intruder. It's unfortunate that we have to be concerned about such things happening in schools, but we're all aware of such incidents that have occurred at some schools around the country, and we must be well prepared to handle these situations. The children did very well with this and were able to sit quietly in the corner for a full five minutes until the exercise was completed. Then, we went right back to play...
BOOKS WE READ....
...yesterday, we read, "I Can't Said the Ant". The children were entertained by all of the rhyming words in the story, and began to guess the words before I read them!
Today, we read, "Duck Soup" by Jackie Urbanovic, which got lots of laughs. The duck in the story, Max, uses phrases like, "Ooohlalaaa!" and "Uno momento". The children had fun trying to say these, and were planning to try them out at home...wonder if they'll remember??
MAY FLOWERS
April showers bring May flowers....so we talked a bit about flowers, and we'll continue to do so next week. We mentioned that some grow from seed, some from bulbs. We took a look at flower bulbs and also provided some in our sensory box for the children to explore.
