Yesterday I received a very kind note from a family sharing their experience with the learning form home. I share it here because it puts the spotlight on our wonderful staff and how quickly and thoughtfully, they have transitioned to learning from home.
“Realizing this note is coming on the heels of the announcement that school closures are extended to May 4, we just wanted to drop a quick note to let you know how grateful we are for the faculty/administration’s hard work to keep the boys learning. [We] were talking last night about how the days seem busier, largely because of the various demands of the mode of remote education. But the benefits to our son’s continued learning and connection to his teachers far outweigh this marginal inconvenience (plus not sure there is any other way!).
Ms. Cunha has been making video lessons for the boys for ELA and Religion, which are so well done and engaging. Mr. Maurer has been meeting with the Group A 5th grade math class regularly via google hangouts (which Xavier loves) and providing super interesting science assignments. [Our son] has LOVED Mr. Moran’s social studies assignments – it’s clear to all of us that he has gone out of his way to find interesting avenues for teaching the materials to keep the boys engaged. Ms. Chladil has been routinely available to help him with music theory. I happened to overhear Paul Rose work with nearly all the boys in the school via Zoom on Monday as they workshopped diction pieces – his patience and effectiveness given the remote medium and the number of people on the call was beyond impressive (and at times, very funny). We are also so grateful for Mr. Bruns efforts to make virtual piano practice work and Mr. Kennerly and Mr. Adach’s work to keep the boys progressing musically. Of course, Mr. Maurer’s Classics club and Mr. Moran’s Lego Masters challenge are huge favorites here. The entire faculty is clearly devoting substantial time to finding creative ways to keep learning going and connections strong, despite the physical distance. We are grateful.”
