A special thank you to Ellen Cruz, Sara Freeman-Church, Steffie King, Scott McAbee, and Rachael Smith for helping Melissa with lesson plans for a few substitutes within the district. This helped students start the semester on track. It definitely takes a village.
Film Screening: The Red Cape (This Thursday!)
On November 10, 1898, the city government of Wilmington, NC was overthrown- the only successful coup d’etat in American history. At least 60 African Americans were killed by an armed mob of white supremacists, and hundreds more were forced from their homes and the city. This story was an untold portion of NC history until the past 10-15 years.
Please join us for a viewing and discussion of “The Red Cape”, a video dramatization of the
events in Wilmington in 1898.

Message from Melissa
1. How is it February?
2. Why is it 65 degrees in February?
3. WSFCS Social Studies teachers are awesome.
4. High School Social Studies teachers in WSFCS are more awesome than everyone else.
I know the transition from 1st Semester to 2nd Semester was not super fun. The lack of planning to get ready for new students, the PowerSchool grade issue, the need to continue with make-ups for the NC Final, and a less than eventful Super Bowl have left everyone in the doldrums. But, you all made it and stayed classy.
I hope each of you has a great week!
Melissa
