5th Grade Growing Up Lesson
Dear parent or guardian:
Every spring, as part of our 5th grade health curriculum, students learn about human growth
and development/puberty during our two week health unit entitled “Growing Up.” This two week unit teaches the basic facts about growing up and puberty, including the role of hormones and the endocrine system.
Our students will engage in lessons on the role of hormones and the endocrine system, utilizing resources from KidsHealth.org during the week of April 26, 2021. Then, on Friday, May 7, 2021 on Zoom at 2:30 pm, students will view the “Always Changing and Growing Up - Co-Ed Puberty Education Video” (see link below) from the Always Changing & Growing Up program in their classroom, with their classmates. Students will receive an introduction to the video from Mrs. Tilton (STEM teacher) that explains how the video addresses what many students will experience during adolescence. All people and bodies are different and it is important that students discuss their personal experiences during puberty with adults they trust; parents, guardians, grandparents, etc. After the video, students will have an opportunity to ask questions anonymously via an electronic form that will be open for several days. STEM teachers will then create and share a Frequently Asked Questions document with both families and students shortly thereafter.
Specially designed for 5th grade students, the “Always Changing & Growing Up” program by
Procter & Gamble offers resources to help educators and parents teach the important topics of puberty and human growth and development.

contacting your child’s school principal in writing (email will suffice.)
Thank you. We appreciate your partnership.
Sincerely,
