Reading, building, and making with Mrs. Rains!
September has arrived...and so has our choice board!
Check out some fun activities on our September Choice board! Girls Who Code and Battle of the Books will begin in October...look for information and permission slips later this month.
I'm sure your child has talked about how much they enjoy maker time in the Library. It takes a lot of supplies to make this happen, so as you think about gifts or donations, I would love for you to consider any of the items on our maker wishlist for the library instead of personal gifts.
Library Media Links
Machetanz Readers & Makers
Below you'll find links for library resources, story time online, and other events happening this year. I'll also update this section with frequently asked questions as they come up.
Students in grades K-2 can check out one book each time they have library. If your child wants to keep their book for a few extra days, please let them! They can just plan to return it on their next library day.
Students in grades 3-5 can check out 2 books at a time from the library. Many of your young readers are diving into chapter books that will take more than 3 days to read. Please allow them to keep the book until they're finished reading it. They will have a chance to check out new books every few days.
All students K-5 will receive a Chromebook to use for the school year. In case of closures, they will be able to use them at home. You can check with your child's teacher if you have questions about where they should be kept. If your child's Chromebook is damaged, the replacement cost is $280 and the power cord replacement cost is $40.
Many of our books are made especially for libraries. They have high usage glue or sewn bindings in order to withstand lots of reading which causes the replacement cost to be higher than books you can order from Amazon or Target. If your son/daughter loses a library book, you can pay the school online but you need to notify me or contact the office to have it setup for you.
If you have any questions for me, please reach out any time. You can email me at heather.rains@matsuk12.us or message me at 650-753-1230 between 7:00am - 7:00pm. I will get back to you as quickly as possible.
I look forward to reading and making with your children in our library this year!
