CAPS Artwork
“Ghost” by Evelyn Friedel, 7th grade
I really liked the shading of this contour art -- how it was lighter in the middle and turned darker. What was challenging was using pencil and finishing it, but I like pencil more than markers.
“Not Quite a Red Balloon” by Claire Turner, 7th grade
I like the way that I made the string below the balloon more lifelike with the curves in this contour piece. It was difficult to decide how much of a curve to use in the small parts versus the big parts. Next time I would try to add more “electric” colors to make it pop out a bit more.
“Shadow Vases” by Isabella Middelzick, 8th grade

HS Cross Country is nearing the end of another successful season!
Led by captains Ava Horton, Jack Plummer and Jackson Minsker, the XC team has run in seven races so far and produced 59 season or personal record times.
In addition, four of our runners have recorded some of the fastest times on record for Corbett. Early in the year Malena Mayell became Corbett’s 3rd fastest woman in the 5k. In early October, Olivia McGrew ran a few seconds faster. Olivia and Malena currently hold the 3rd and 4th fastest times ever for Corbett women.
On the men’s side, Cyrus Kurkinen is Corbett’s 3rd fastest man in the 5k. In addition, Logan Matias shows that the future is bright for Corbett XC. He is the 2nd fastest 9th grader and the fastest in the past decade.
Our district championship race is on Thursday, October 27th where we expect another strong showing.

The PTA would like to welcome Corbett Grade School beautification committee!
This landscape committee is tasked with the cleanup and refreshing of the front planting beds of the grade school throughout the year, to beautify and improve our school. This is a great opportunity to show our pride and appreciation for our school, teachers, staff and children.
- When: Second Saturday of every month rain or shine (but not in the snow or ice) Starting Saturday Oct 15th.
- Time: 9 am – 11 am (with enough volunteers and regular upkeep it should not take much time to keep it looking good).
- Cost: only your time and any landscape tools you might have to help with the clean ups (i.e., rakes, blower, etc.).
- How can I get involved? Please contact Amy Mowlds, VP of the PTA and mom of a Corbett Grade School student if you are interested in helping amy.skibbe@gmail.com or text at 503.970.7328.
Kids of a responsible age are welcome to come along and help. This is a lot of hand work and little hands can be great at pulling weeds. This will not only show our children our appreciation but show them what we can accomplish when we work as a team to better our Community.
Please keep scanning those Box Tops! Support the Corbett PTA when you shop at: smile.amazon.com and select "Corbett Elem PTA". Every little bit helps and the PTA loves giving back to our schools and teachers!

From the Health Room
The refreshing rain and cooler weather has finally emerged. We see many fall
colors on t-shirts and sweaters and enjoy this change of season.
Several holidays are coming up that will include many food choices. This would be
a great time to use the My Plate app to make healthy eating habits easier:
https://www.myplate.gov/resources/tools/startsimple-myplate-app
I noted the objective of this app is to choose one healthy habit to incorporate.
When you complete a goal, an electronic badge is earned. There are challenges for
each season that include recipes to try.
If immunizations are needed you should have received a letter in the mail with the information. Reynolds High School has a School Based Health Center that is for
