A note about Food Allergies:
A food allergy is a serious and potentially life-threatening medical condition affecting up to 15 million Americans. One in every 13 children has a food allergy—that’s about 2 in every U.S. classroom. And every 3 minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room.
About one-third of kids with food allergies report that they have been bullied because of their allergies. This is especially serious because food allergies can be life-threatening.
Please let me reiterate our guidelines on bringing in food to the school.
* We love to celebrate birthdays! However, due to a lot of dietary restrictions of some of our students, we ask you to let the teacher know that you plan to bring in a treat at least 5 days prior. All treats are done in the lunchroom during the last 15 minutes of the students’ lunch. The advanced notice allows us to provide an alternative to those that cannot partake in your particular treat.
* For our Christmas Celebrations, please make sure you have communicated with your child's teacher before sending in any goodies!
Also, we have a great new family at Poplar Road. However, one of the students has a life-threatening allergy to Latex. Because latex powder is airborne, balloons are especially dangerous to him. Therefore, we ask that no one send or bring any balloons to the school building. Our front office will not be able to accept them for any child.
