End of Year Celebration Activities

Each grade level has planned structured "fun" activities for this last week of school. As we enjoy the last week, we have to remember that many of our peers will continue to test up until Wednesday after around 2:00pm. Below is a general overview of the grade level specific celebrations that have been shared with me. If your grade level is planning an activity that is not listed below, please receive approval from your grade level administrator before you move forward with the event. If we over-communicate across teams and make sure that each activity is structured and organized, we will ensure that our campus remains safe and orderly during the course of the week. (win-win for everybody)

6th Grade-Tue. 1:00-4:00 "Party at the Park", Food Truck Fun & Video Game Adventure

"Uniform free" Week 6/6-6/9

The final week of school will be a “uniform free” week for all of our scholars. We are asking that our scholars donate & turn-in their washed & cleaned uniforms so that we can replenish our clothing closet for next year. Next year we will not be a uniform school. However, scholars who report to school outside of the CMS dress code next year will be given a uniform to wear as they attend their classes.

This week each SMS scholar will have a chance to pick 3 books to take home to read over the summer. Thanks to donations from the Open Book Foundation and other supporters we are able to provide our scholars with books to read over the summer. Ms. Flash will be sending out a schedule on Monday for classes to visit the media center to select their books.

Fish & Chips at SMS

Thank you to Mr. Johnson for organizing our inaugural "Fish & Chips" program at SMS. Approximately 15 of our 6th grade scholars who have consistently demonstrated integrity, character and grit in their classes and throughout our 6th grade community were treated to a fishing trip at Freedom Park. For many of the scholars it was their first time fishing. During the trip, we taught the scholars how fishing teaches patience, preparation and perseverance and how these character traits can be demonstrated at school and in the community.

8th Grade Scholars (and teachers) Dance the Night Away at the 8th Grade Social

Thank you to Ms. Briscoe and our 8th grade social planning committee for doing such a wonderful job of planning our 8th grade social this past Friday night. The cafeteria was transformed into a beautiful ballroom for our scholars. It was a great night of classy attire, fantastic food and dynamic dancing for all who attended.

Summer Learning Blitz Toolkit

We are only a few days away from summer break and are ready to kick off the Summer Learning Blitz! This Summer Learning Blitz campaign will begin June 13 and go through August 12. Please encourage your students to engage in learning during the summer months using district provided digital tools that are available anywhere, anytime.

We have joined with our partners to provide awesome prizes for winner participants at the end of the Summer Learning Blitz.

For every hour students spend on one of the three digital tools (Compass Learning, Kids A to Z, DreamBox) students will have their name entered into the drawing. The more time students spend on these tools, the more times their names will be entered to win AMAZING prizes.

The Summer Learning Blitz website will be live May 26. We will begin tracking student usage on June 13.
