On August 26,1920, the 19th Amendment to the constitution was ratified. American women for the first time, like men received all the right and responsibilities of citizenship.
19th Amendment
The 19th amendment stated that "the right of citizens of the united states to vote shall not be denied of abridged by the united states on account of sex."

Before 1920 women weren't allowed to vote. Back then women didn't have many rights. They couldn't speak freely, or vote.
