Message from Mrs. Stauffer
Dear Rainbow Famlies,
Cell phones have become a way of life: a technological convenience and, at times, a safety/security tool that has impacted all of our lives in one way or another. However, in the school environment, cell phones have, in some cases, become a distraction and interruption to learning. Although it is understood that communication from home is sometimes needed during the school day, parents are urged to utilize the school office phone number to relay any messages to their child that may be urgent in nature. We will do our best to relay any urgent information to your child. Of course, the best security for the cell phone is to leave it home. We discourage students from bringing expensive items to school (such as technology, expensive jewelry, and large amounts of cash). If it is expensive to replace, please leave it at home. Our goal is to create a safe environment, conducive to learning, and free of all distractions that hinder the learning process. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Stauffer

Rainbow Celebrates Reading
Rainbow Wildcats know that reading is fundamental! In fact, Rainbow had a whole week called, “Read Across Rainbow” to celebrate the importance of reading. Students, faculty, and staff participated in Read Across Rainbow Spirit week theme days. From hats to crazy socks to superhero costumes Rainbow students, faculty, and staff participated in Read Across Rainbow Spirit week theme days.
Monday 2/27 : Reading brightens our day! Wear as many colors as you can!
Tuesday 2/28: Hats off to reading-Wear your favorite hat!
Wednesday 3/1: Reading takes us places...including our feet! Wear crazy socks
Thursday 3/2: Reading is our superpower! Dress as your favorite superhero!
Friday 3/3: Reading is out of this world! Wear space-themed items!
In our classrooms, students were busy following daily reading routines! Students practiced high frequency words, read decodable books, read stories in their Open Court anthology, and practiced comprehension skills.
This highlight of our celebration of reading was our Readers are Superheroes Parent Engagement Night on Thursday, March 2nd. The event was attended by 100 students and parents. The goal of the evening was to build community through fostering a love of reading. Prior to the event, Rainbow families and staff shared recipes of their favorite healthy and delicious snacks. Rainbow reading specialists Dr. Pam Bisazza and Sue Ann DeLorenzo, used the shared recipes to create a Superhero Snacks Cookbook for students to read and follow the recipes with their families to make a scrumptious, healthy snacks! Complimentary cookbooks were provided to families at movie night. Students and families enjoyed watching a superhero movie together and all students received superhero wristbands and superhero themed books.
This was a fun and creative evening with families and literature! “It was a great night for the community for fun and learning,” said Maria Stauffer, Rainbow Elementary School Principal. Thank you to our students, families, and staff for making this night a success.
Sixth Grade Center Scheduling
The Scott SIxth Grade Center is excited to welcome your students next year! In preparation for their arrival in August, the staff at Scott is working on the scheduling process. They have learned a lot in their four years as a 6th grade center and they are using that knowledge to support their incoming students in a way that will benefit them greatly as they transition from elementary to secondary schooling.
Please click on the button below to watch a Sixth Grade Scheduling Video. More information about scheduling will be sent in upcoming Monday Morning Messages.
Lost and Found
Restroom Concerns
Dear Rainbow Families,
Recently at Rainbow we have been experiencing an alarming amount of concerning behavior in our student restrooms. Over the past two weeks, we have had incidents of paper towels and toilet paper strewn about the restrooms, excessive amounts of toilet paper being put into toilets causing them to clog, writing on bathroom stalls, and human waste being smeared on stall walls. This is a major safety and hygiene concern.
This behavior has been a trend in schools and has become viral on social media, particularly Tik Tok. We need to work together as a school community to ensure that our students support and maintain clean facilities. As families, please take some time to have a conversation with your students about the impact this behavior has on our school.
Teachers will be reviewing and reteaching bathroom expectations with students. At Rainbow, the behavior expectations below are posted at each restroom.
We are Responsible
-Go
-Flush
-Wash
-Leave
We are Respectful
-Place trash in the trash can
-Honor the privacy of others
We are Safe

We appreciated your support to ensure the safety of our students as well as maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetics of our school.
Respectfully,
Mrs. Stauffer and the Rainbow Staff

Pokemon Cards
Pokemon cards are enjoying a resurgence in popularity, but unfortunately, they are sometimes problematic when brought to school. Recently, the Rainbow staff and I have addressed many issues with missing cards, disagreements about trades, and damaged cards. Sadly, the issues have been upsetting to children and their families, and they have taken up time that is dedicated to instruction.
To alleviate these issues, we are requesting that Pokemon cards remain at home. I know that some children greatly enjoy playing with them, but the issues associated with playing with them at school have been significant. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to create the best learning environment for our students
Message from the School Nurse
Hi Rainbow Community,
I am reaching out to ask for your support as we navigate the trifecta of Flu (Influenza), RSV, and Covid. Chester County is experiencing high levels of Influenza A. COVID-19 is at medium level. RSV is most common under the age of 5. These children may have cold symptoms, sore throat, fever, not eating or drinking well. Sometimes, RSV infection can lead to wheezing or bronchiolitis or pneumonia. You should have your child seen by the doctor for proper diagnosis.
Vaccines for Influenza and COVID-19 are available at many pharmacies and Chester County Department of Health by appointment only, 610-344-5405.
Please keep your child home if they are sick. If your student becomes sick at school, you will be asked to pick them up promptly. Students with Influenza can return to school after being fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medication and symptoms have improved.
If your child test positive for COVID-19, the must isolate for 5 full days. The first full day of symptoms is Day 0. They can return with a well-fitting mask on Day 6 if their symptoms are improving and fever free for at least 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
This is our district illness policy which can be found on the CASD website under Rainbow:“The following are some symptoms which may mean that your child is ill. Your child should remain at home when he/she has: Fever over 100 degrees, chills. persistent cough or shortness of breath, vomiting. diarrhea, unusual skin rash. severe sore throat, enlarged glands, abdominal pain, or inflamed eyes/eye discharge. A child should remain home at least 24 hours without a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and/or vomiting following an illness. By following these guidelines, you will protect not only the health of your child, but the health or his/her classmates. Note that your child will not be able to attend school if he/she is suffering from untreated pink eye, impetigo, ringworm, scabies, unusual skin rash, severe sore throat, or fever over 100 degrees.”
All the best,
Maria Buhl, School Nurse

Important Reminders
Student Name/Teacher/Date and Time of Dismissal/Reason/Name of Adult picking up and relationship/Parent Signature and parent daytime phone#
All early dismissals should be completed at the main office by 3:00. Students must be signed out. Dismissals after 3:15 will be in the parent pickup line.

Refillable water bottles:Rainbow has transitioned to bottle filling stations. Water fountains have been turned off. Students should bring a refillable water bottle to school..
Transportation: A nationwide bus driver shortage is impacting many districts, including Coatesville, and may lead to increased delays. Buses normally run late the first two weeks of school as students and drivers become accustomed to their routes. We appreciate your patience. If your student is riding the bus, please have them at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the arrival of the bus.
Parent-Pick-Up Notes: Thank you for having patience with us as we work to make our afternoon dismissal more efficient. Please help up with this by sending a parent pick up note into school with your student. You may send in a handwritten note or download and print the form below.
