Staff Training February 1 & 2 (No School)

KAES will have a teacher training on February 1 & 2, 2021. This training was scheduled for three days, however due to the snow day that we took, we are needing to start school on Wednesday. Our hope is that we will not have to add days at the end of our year and still meet all required days. If you have already made plans to be away on Feb. 3, please let the school know. We are sorry for this late change to our schedule.

100th Day of School Celabration

The 100th Day of School is alway a fun to celebrate. This day had a little something for everyone. Some students dressed up as if they were 100 years old, some student came to school with 100 items and some had a 100 items on their head. We can't forget the counting. Students counted to 100 and by 100s while other classes multiplied, divided and factored 100.

Never a dull day (the adventures of classroom pets)

We had some excitement this week. As we arrived at school on Monday in our fourth grade classroom we found an empty hamster cage. Little Marshmallow and Cinnamon our class pets(two domesticated white mice) had decided to go on an exploration. Cinnamon was found quite quickly as he chose to stay around the classroom, however Marshmallow wanted more adventure and so traveled to the school office and created quite the stir. Marshmallow, not wanting to be caught and a little frightened by the flurry of activity that kept following him, decided to seek safety that only a steel fire door can provide. He ran right up into the door and stayed there the rest of the day. By the next morning he had ventured up to the 3rd grade, where he cleared everyone from the room by his mouse like appearance. This did lead to his recapture and Marshmallow and Cinnamon, who have worn out their welcome at KAES have now found new residence in a loving home near by.

Middle School Outreach

Despite the cold our middle school students spread out across our community this morning to lend a helping hand. They did a great job too. Even though this year we can not connect with people the way we are accustomed to are still making a difference.

Book Drive for our sister school Pohnpei SDA School

Do you have some nice books that your children have outgrown and are not using? If you do, we encourage you to donate them for our sister school in Pohnpei Micronesia. Starting February each classroom will be collecting books for us to send in March.

We are challenging each classroom to collect as many good quality books as possible. To encourage participation, the classroom in each building with the highest ratio of books donated will receive a pizza party.

At the end of February we will box up the donated books and send them to Pohnpei.
