Principal Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
Wow! The change in weather this week has really made it feel like fall! With the swing in temperatures, please be sure to send students dressed in layers. Although the days start out chilly, it is often pretty warm out on the sunny playground during lunch recess. It’s nice to be able to easily throw on or take off a sweater or sweatshirt as the day warms up.
Thank you to all the families who continue to send children with masks and extra masks. There is so much to keep track of during the day, (lunch boxes, backpacks, masks, supplies) and sometimes our young learners can be forgetful. We have some extra disposable masks for children who forget or misplace theirs, but we are not able to provide them every day. The best strategy is to send a few from home so that students have an extra if one goes missing.
Thank you again for all of your support for our book fair. It’s fun for kids to bring new books home, and the proceeds from these events help us expand our school library! I hope you have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Amanda

Dean of Students Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
Now that the weather has started to turn cooler, we anticipate an increase in typical seasonal illnesses. As we continue to navigate COVID symptoms as well, the question has come up, "How sick is too sick to come to school?"
This At-Home Screening Guide for COVID-19 explains more about what symptoms you should be looking for each morning. When your child has any major symptoms: fever, loss of taste or smell, cough, or difficulty breathing, they should stay home until symptoms have resolved for 24 hours. Similarly, if your child has more than one of the minor symptoms: sore throat, runny nose or congestion, muscle or body aches, headache, fatigue, nausea/vomiting, or diarrhea, they should also be kept home until symptoms have resolved.
If you are going to keep your child home, please just give the front office a call. Absences for illness are always excused and there are no negative consequences. We appreciate your support in keeping our community safe and healthy!
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students

Design Thinking in the Garage
The Garage at Eagle Crest is a place for creating, problem solving, and collaboration. When students come to The Garage, they may complete a design challenge, learn to code, or explore robotics. Leadership development is always on our minds as we must communicate effectively in order to collaborate and create solutions to design challenges. We also inspire each other by sharing innovative ideas and encouraging each other through difficult setbacks.
Check out the photos below of first graders completing a design challenge based on The Three Little Pigs: "How might we build a house that can withstand the Big Bad Wolf's huffing and puffing?" (The Big Bad Wolf was a hair dryer!)

100 Mile Club - Starting Next Week
It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce the return of our in-person 100 Mile Club during the 2021-2022 school year. 100 Mile Club is a long standing tradition at ECES and it is a great opportunity for your students to improve their health awareness, social well-being, and build self-confidence as they reach goals along the way.
All students in grades K-5 are invited and encouraged to participate. Over the course of the school year we will be running laps each day, in order to reach the big goal of completing 100 miles! Students in grades K-1 must be accompanied by an adult, but all families are welcome to join us. In fact, in the past many families have shared that this has been a great opportunity to connect with others and make friends in the community. We would also love to have some extra parent volunteers each morning to help us help the students track their laps/miles.
As students reach milestones along the way they will be awarded with incentives. At the completion of the first 25 miles, your student will receive a 100 Mile Club t-shirt. Once your student reaches 50 miles they will receive a pencil. Upon reaching 75 miles, your student earns a wristband. Finally, when your child reaches 100 miles, they will be awarded a ver special 100 Mile Club medal.
The registration cost for 100 Mile Club is $20 per runner this year. We have switched over to the ONLINE ONLY registrations again this year. As part of the online registration you will pay through Revtrak using the link below. All students must register online before arriving to 100 Mile Club in the morning.
Eagle Crest 100 MIle Club Registration
We will begin 100 Mile Club this year starting on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. It will run until April 29th, 2022. Students can attend 1, 2, or all three days each week. It's up to you! The days and times we will run are listed below:
Tuesdays – 7:45-8:15 AM
Wednesdays – 7:45-8:15 AM
Thursdays – 7:35-8:15 AM
In the event of inclement weather (heavy rain, snow on the track, our temperature less than 20℉), we will do our best to notify families by text message and post a cancellation on our website by 7:00AM.
Mwebaza Annex - Uganda Sister School
More exciting news! This week 4 members of the Mwebaza Foundation staff are finally traveling to Uganda. Their last trip was summer of 2019. The plan is to spend a few days at each of the partner schools. Although the students are still not in school, the teachers and communities members will be meeting with the Mwebaza staff to discuss and collaborate on computer training, new curriculum ideas, permaculture gardening techniques, scholarship interviews, micro-industry ideas and plans to build teacher homes at one of the partner schools. The current itinerary is packed with busy days. Although it is disappointing that students will not be in school, President Museveni announced last week that there will be a major focus on vaccinations and that higher education will return to the classroom in November. The plan is for Primary school to begin in January. Everyone is hopeful that this will happen.
On Monday the team packed 12 suitcases full of the school supplies from Eagle Crest. The Laps for Leadership shirts PTO donated. Lots of masks and hand sanitizer and backpacks. They also packed several Chromebooks donated by BVSD for teachers to use and other items needed for the computer labs.
Mrs. Hansen plans to post on her blog as often as possible during the trip.
