Whitford Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 7 - 14 March 2018
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents
I again begin this newsletter in awe of the amazing autumn weather we have been blessed with so far this season. How lucky are we, to live where we do!
Parent-Teacher Interviews
I remind parents of the importance in attending the upcoming Parent-Teacher meetings on Wednesday 21st March. This is an integral part of the school’s reporting system and is an excellent opportunity for parents and teachers to share information and discuss your child’s strengths, areas for growth and individual needs. By attending, you are sending a powerful message to your children, that the important parent/teacher team is united and has their best interests at heart. If you have not yet made a booking with your child/ren's teacher, please see the link further in this newsletter.
Cyclic Review
Our school will be undergoing a School Cyclic Review on 27 & 28 March 2018. This review will focus on the effectiveness of our engagement with self-review, the impact of self-review on school improvement and the future directions for the improvement of student outcomes identified.
A cyclic review occurs once in a five-year period and is a requirement of school re-registration. An external panel will meet with community members, including the Leadership Team, teachers, non-teaching staff, students and parents, as well as visiting classrooms.
Swimming Carnival
We wish all students involved in the Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival this Friday the best of luck and hope they enjoy all aspects of the day. Many thanks to Mr D’Adamo, staff and parent helpers. We look forward to a fabulous event.
Lapathon/Color Run
Next week our students will participate in what should be a fun P&F fundraiser, with all monies raised going toward much needed new adventure play equipment. Please read important information under P&F in this newsletter.
Parish Council
Strong relationships between school and parish are integral to the life and energy of our school. I take this opportunity of thanking Mrs Karolina Brown for offering to be the Parish/Board Representative and attending her first meeting last night.
Again, thank you for your continued support.
Many blessings
Tamara McGougan
Principal
Harmony Week / WCPS Day Of Action Against Bullying
Next week is Harmony Week. To coincide with the week, Whitford Catholic will also have a day where we will take action against bullying. During the week, Student Leaders and Ministries will be selling ‘Bullying? No way!’ wristbands for 50c. Proceeds will go towards purchasing resources on Anti-Bullying.
On Friday 23rd March students are invited to wear something orange, the traditional colour for Harmony Day. The gelato van will also be visiting the school on Thursday 22 March to help celebrate the day. Please mark this date on your calendar. Children from Pre-Primary to Year 6 can enjoy many yummy flavours of gelato for $3.50 each. Money is to be sent to your child’s class on the day only. The van will be available after school for anyone who would like extra ice cream.

Ditosa from Mozambique
Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion story this week takes us to Mozambique to meet Ditosa.
Ditosa is a young girl from Mozambique who hopes to go to university and become a police officer. Cared for by her grandmother and aunt, after her parents died of illness, they also lost their home and livelihoods in severe flooding.
Thanks to the support of Project Compassion, Caritas Australia and Caritas Regional Chokwe (CRC) helped Ditosa’s family to build a new house and assisted with transport fees, school materials and fees, to help Ditosa to stay at school.
Ditosa attended the Matuba Children’s Centre (set up by Caritas in 2007) which provides vulnerable children, like Ditosa, with lunch, study help, and computer and income-generating skills training.
In 2018, Ditosa has graduated from school and is ambitious for the future.
“Without the support of the people from Australia and Caritas I would not have been given this opportunity to continue my schooling.”
Ditosa dreams of going to university to continue studying and secure an even brighter future.
