Fun in Grade One!
First Grade News for the Month of May
IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN
We are in the final days of First Grade. We have truly enjoyed watching our students grow into successful readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, responsible citizens and so much more!
May 13th starts our end of year testing. The students will be tested on the Phonological Awareness and Literacy Screening (PALS) and Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) followed by a cumulative math test.
Here are some tips to help you child be prepared for testing.
1. Make sure your child gets a good nights sleep before the test
2. They should eat a nutritious and filling breakfast.
3. Set aside time each night prior to the test to review sight words and math facts.
4. Make sure your student is on time on the day of testing
Please let us know if there are any review materials you would like to best prepare your student.
Thank you,
Ms. Ladd, Ms. Hill, Mrs. Campbell, Ms. Pitera, Ms. Parham, Ms. Porter, Ms. El-dada and Ms. Conyers-Jones

What We'll Learn in May!
Math- We will make fair shares to represent halves and fourths. We will use a variety of objects to measure the length, weight, and volume of things using nonstandard measurement (i.e. a book is 8 paper clips long). We will take a cumulative Math test June 6 and 7.
Social Studies-We will learn about state and local government officials, how we can make contributions to our communities and explore diverse ethnic origins, customs, and traditions of all Americans.
Science-We will learn about force and motion through pushes and pulls. We will also learn about simple machines like pulleys, levers, wheels, inclined plane, and wedge.
