Creativity
What is Creativity?
- I believe creativity is a variety of things. In general I think creativity is when you come up with an idea and you make it original or unique. I believe creativity is stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something different. Creativity is going against the grain.
Can it be Taught?
- In my opinion I do think creativity can be taught but I don't believe that you can force creativity upon someone. It's a person's choice if they want to be creative. It's their choice if they want to step out of their comfort zone and create something original.
Why is Creativity Important?
- I believe that creativity is important because I feel like it opens people to new things or situations. I feel like it broadens people's minds and keeps things interesting. I also feel that creativity keeps things flowing in different directions. It's boring when everything is the same, so when something is different it makes things exciting.
Why is creativity such a desirable skill?
- Creativity is such a desirable skill because people want different. They don't want to see the same thing over and over again. People want different outcomes. They want original pieces or ideas. Creativity is exciting, so when a book or an art piece is creative; it excites people. People enjoy that.
Examples
Since I'm the person that writes the story it's harder for me to know if what I created is creative or not. But I like to believe and I like to think that my work is creative. I believe the whole thing is creative but that's because I'm the writer. It's up to the reader to know if it's creative or not. It's their own opinion.
Impact
Can Creativity be Measured?
- I don't believe that creativity can be measured because everyone is creative in their own way. If society or even schools were to set a standard on how creative someone was, it wouldn't allow that person to be creative. People would be trying to meet societies' and schools' standard and they wouldn't be meeting their own standard on creativity.
What are Some Products That Show Creativity?
- There's many products that show creativity. Such as books, commercials, magazines, games, movies, etc. Now a days creativity is wanted and that's what people strive for. Producers want to come up with unique movies to interest the public. Some examples of that is the new Angry Bird Movie and Through the Looking Glass; I feel as if those are creative. Every book in the world is an example of creativity. Authors write their books with originality. They came up with that idea and they spun that story to create a new world to the readers. Creativity shows up everywhere.
Interests
What are Examples in Society/Fields of Work That Interest You?
- The only field of work that interests me is Counseling. I've always been interested in helping people through things. In my opinion I believe this field of work is creative because counseling doesn't mean you just sit there and take notes on what people are feeling. I believe that a counselor could allow their client to paint, draw, write a story. The counselor could counsel in different ways.
What Impact Does School Have on Creativity?
- I believe school has a huge impact on creativity. In Van Meter, they allow us to take multiple art classes. Such as 3-D art, 2-D art, Intro to Art, and Advanced Art. I've taken Advanced Art for three years and Mrs. Comer allows me to create whatever I want to. She lets us run wild with our project and that helps with creativity because she allows us to come up with our own ideas and how we want our project to turn out. I also think school sort of represses creativity when they tell people they need to do a certain project this way to pass that class. Although I do think they are getting better on that because they are starting give you the standards but allowing you to reach it in anyway. School has both a negative and positive impact on creativity.
