Join Us Feb. 1 for a Community Redistricting Meeting
January 19, 2024
From the Desk of Superintendent, Dr. Kevin S. Miller
Dear Licking Heights Families,
We are continually grateful for all the valuable feedback provided by district parents, students, and staff this month for our first-ever Strategic Plan and elementary redistricting process. I write to share one final major opportunity for you to share your thoughts directly with our team and redistricting partners, Cooperative Strategies.
Cooperative Strategies has created multiple options for our elementary redistricting–which were created based on the results of our redistricting survey sent to you in December and January–and now requires your insight to narrow down the plan choices. We will hold a community redistricting feedback meeting on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Cooperative Strategies will present their options for elementary redistricting and welcome any feedback from our families. Our leadership team will also be present to answer any questions and document your insights.
We will share the redistricting options in advance with you so you can review them before the community meeting on February 1. This information will be sent via email a few days before our meeting on February 1, so please be closely watching your email for a message from us. You also can access all the information about our redistricting process on the official website created for us by Cooperative Strategies. It is our goal to have a finalized plan for the redistricted, new 2024-2025 elementary school boundaries by the regular Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024. The Board's goal is to officially vote on the proposed boundaries at their February 20 meeting, and immediately following their approval, we will start our work to communicate the changes to every family in our district.
To clarify and address some comments that were submitted, the redistricting is focused on elementary building assignments for Licking Heights families once the new elementary school is opened in 2024-25. All of our families will continue to be Licking Heights families and attend school in our district.
Redistricting does NOT mean that a family will be assigned to a different school district. It simply means that an elementary family may be reassigned to a different elementary school for the 2024-2025 school year than the one their student attended for the 2023-2024 school year.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium and creating the next chapter of our district's history together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kevin S. Miller, Superintendent
