Particpate in Science Olympiad!
What is Science Olympiad?
“North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to attract and retain the pool of K-12 students entering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers in North Carolina. Every year NCSO hosts tournaments on university, community college, and public school campuses across the state. These tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are well balanced between the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology.”
Who can participate in Science Olympiad?
Any student in good academic standing with an interest in science, technology, engineering, or math!
8th Grade Social Studies Curriculum
Granville Academy's Mrs. Nelson is an expert in her curriculum like all of our staff members! The North Carolina Essential Standards for Eighth Grade Social Studies are unique and Mrs. Nelson would like to select a textbook that is aligned to the Norther Carolina Essential Standards. The textbook to be selected is The American Journey that would help prepare students for the end of grade test and master the learning objectives needed for 8th Grade Social Studies.
What this means is that for 8th grade Social Studies only, the course will not operate in an online format. Students will use the textbook they have been given by FuelEd, but they will maintain a traditional notebook with assignments and tests planned and implemented by Mrs. Nelson. We hope this does not cause any inconvenience, but the best interest of our students is at the center of every decision. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Nelson by email at nelsoncw@gcs.k12.nc.us or by calling 919-528-2767 to discuss further.
Student Grades
Student grades are accessible by both students and their family within the PowerSchool Portal!
There are two resource documents below that will be helpful in accessing the Parent Portal and student view. Please contact a GA representative for assistance if needed.
- Student Instructions to View Grades
- Access to Parent Portal: Parental View to Student Grades
Do you need more resources for technology tools within GA?
Check out these documents that will help support students with access to tools & activities they can complete on their GCPS Chromebooks.

GA Groups/Discussion Boards
Granville Academy has set up a virtual collaborative space for GA families in grade spans K-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Invitations were sent late last week to participate in the web forums. This space will provide the opportunity for families to collaborate online. If you are experiencing a situation with your child's courses, feel free to post about it!
Please know the GA Team is monitoring the forums to learn about student experiences and to make connections as well!
If you did not receive an invitation, please feel free to reach out to GranvilleAcademy@gcs.k12.nc.us and include an email address of your preference.
