Note From the Principal
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that the month of December is upon us! As we wrap up our Thanksgiving season, we continue to be thankful for the amazing job that our staff, teachers, students, and parents are doing each and every day. We have been a tremendous team, working together to support our students and provide them with the tools they need to be successful at school.
Empathy. During the month of December, we will focus on the trait of empathy. Staff will be encouraging students to understand and feel the feelings of another. Helping young children discover what they have in common with other people and understand the importance of perspective-taking are two important qualities of empathy you can teach at home.
Spirit Week. Next week, WRE will join our fellow elementary schools in a winter spirit week!
Monday 12/7: National Cotton Candy Day. Dress like cotton candy - pink or blue and be creative!
Wednesday 12/9: Wacky Wednesday. Wacky hair and socks...the wackier the better!
Friday 12/11: Pajama Day!
Winter Parties. Winter parties will be held on Friday, December 18th. While we have restrictions on guests entering the school there are ways you can help out from home! If you are interested, please email your child’s teacher to learn more about classroom plans and ways to support.
As you head into the winter season with your families, I wish you health, happiness, and joy. Each day, I am reminded of the treasures we have at White River and am grateful for the wonderful people who fill our school. This year is certainly the year to appreciate everything you have. Thank you for your continued support.
Soaring with you,
Ms. VanDermark

Online Learners
I hope everyone had a lovely short break last week and had time to relax and spend with family. I know that this Thanksgiving break was spent differently for our family. My husband and I chose to stay home and cherish the time together. I typically go shopping with my mom the Friday after, and sometimes my sister and niece, yet shopping this year was done from the comfort of my home, in front of the fireplace, with a warm cup of cocoa, online. Different, yet able to enjoy the calm of the day. I have learned to find peace in the chaos of the Pandemic this year by focusing on what I am gaining by life being different and thinking about what I am learning from this that I should continue post-pandemic. Take time over this winter season to reflect with your family on what has been a “win” during the past 9 months.
eLearning Days, Closures, and 2 Hour Delays - oh my!
Of course we hope the winter weather is cooperative yet if we were to have weather that would cause our in-person learning to be on a 2 hour delay, have an eLearning Day, or close, our online learning day would be as follows:
eLearning Day - if an eLearning day is called due to weather, we would operate as usual for online learners. If there are any schedule changes for your child on an eLearning day called due to weather, then your child’s teacher will communicate this with all families. Teachers will do their best to keep the schedule the same, yet if their own children are home with them, they may need to make slight adjustments.
School Closure - if school is closed for the day (NO eLearning day) then we would NOT conduct online learning on that day. This allows for the online learning schedule to stay aligned with those that are attending in-person.
2 Hour Delays - if there is a 2 hour delay, we would operate as usual for online learners. As with an eLearning day, if there are any schedule changes, your child’s teacher will contact you.
