Library Learning
Kindergarten Typing
1st Grade Dragons
2nd Grade Google
First Grade: First grade began the year with a review of book care and parts of the books including the role of author and illustrator. We have also been listening to the Iowa Goldfinch Books so we can vote later in the year on our favorite! The past couple weeks students have been listening to the chapter book Dragon Masters and this week they drew their own original dragon. Next week we will build dragons with Legos to incorporate some STEAM into our literacy lessons!
Second Grade: Second graders started out the year reviewing expectations and learning about how to choose just right books during checkout. We spent a few weeks reading some of the Iowa Goldfinch Books. The past couple of weeks students have learned how to login to the computer using their personal school logins and have joined Google Classroom using their Google accounts. We have started a project using Google Slides that is teaching them the basics of Slides and how to insert and edit text and images. I have been so impressed with their computer skills!
3rd Grade Authors
Squid are How Long?
Makerspace
4th Grade: 4th grade started the year reviewing how to login to the computers and using their Google accounts. All students have been added to the library Google Classroom. We have been busy preparing for the visiting author. We read her original fairy tale Clever JacK Takes the Cake and students have been using her CLAPS method to come up with their own original fairy tales. They are creating a visual representation of these using Buncee. This week we read Giant Squid and watched some rare footage of an actual live squid in the Ocean. We used rules to measure out the length of a Giant Squid! Man they are HUGE mysterious creatures!
5th Grade Buncee
Buncee Boards
All About Me
6th Grade: 6th grade began the year reviewing how to login with their Google logins and joining the library Google classroom. Students learned how to use a site called Buncee to create creative presentations about themselves. They then shared their Buncees to a Buncee board so they could see each others work. We discussed how to give constructive comments to our peers as well as ask meaningful question. This is just one skill in the quest to becoming a good Digital Citizen.
