Another day and another sold
A day in history that will be remembered...
What was the slave trade and who was in it?
Slave trading was a popular event in the south during the 1800's since most of economic trade was based around slavery. There were two main methods of slave trade between plantation owners which included personal trade and auctions. The worlds largest slave auction was held in the city of Savannah GA on March 3rd, 1859. Also known as "The day of tears", 436 slaves were sold over the course of two days by the famous plantation owner Pierce Butler. Mr.Butler had been in debt from his ill minded gambling which had almost forced him and his family out of their home. In order to save his family plantation which had been passed down to him through family, he had to sell his slaves in order to pay off his debts.
