Week In Review

On Friday night, the Falcons headed to Phoenixville for their game against the Phantoms. The Falcons played a great game, winning 42-7! The band had a good show during halftime and played very well throughout the game in the stands!

Saturday was our first competition. After a rehearsal in the afternoon, the band headed to Boyertown! They had a solid show and returned home with a score of 72.35 and a first place trophy! This was definitely a great way to start our competitive season! We would like to thank Dr. Ziegler and Mrs. Williams for joining us at our first show! The band is always appreciative of the support from the Music Department and school Administration.

You should be proud of your first competitive performance. Let's keep this momentum going as we head to West Chester East this weekend!
Boyertown Cavalcade

Schedule for this Week

FRIDAY: HOME GAME (Step-Up Night). The band should plan to stay after school to prepare for Step-Up Night. The Middle School band students will be joining us for a rehearsal around 4:15 PM. We will rehearse until 5:00 PM and then there will be pizza available for all band students. We will leave for the stadium at 6:15 PM. Our pre-game performance time is 6:30 PM. At half-time we will be an OUTSTANDING audience for Upper Perkiomen’s band.

Each middle school band member will receive a coupon for a hot dog and a beverage. Marching Band members should bring money for the concession stands, as usual. It is important that you are a GREAT “buddy” for your Middle School band students. It is important that they have a positive experience and that they leave the game considering joining the marching band when they get to the high school. Please be respectful and a GREAT host. You have always been outstanding at this event, and all the district band directors expect you to do the same this year.

REMINDER: NO food or drink is allowed in the stands. You must finish all refreshments BEFORE returning to the stands.

Pick-up time on Friday is 10:15 PM

SATURDAY: Report time - 12:15 PM. PLEASE eat before coming to practice. We will practice from 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM. Following practice you will have approximately 1 hour to pack, load equipment, eat something, get dressed, and load the bus. Please bring something to eat with you when you come at 12:15 PM, as there will not be enough time to order out. You may not leave campus for food. We MUST leave at 5:00 PM SHARP! We will go dressed in halves. We will NOT have the opportunity to change clothes after our performance. Chaperone Report time is 4:00 PM. Our performance time is 8:00 PM. Awards are at 9:05 PM. Please bring money for dinner. We hope to utilize the concession stands after awards.

Pick-up time back at PGHS is 11:45 PM.

SUNDAY - Sunday is going to be a GREAT day. Many of us have been looking forward to this day since last year. Report time will be 9:30 AM. We will need to leave PGHS by 9:45 AM Sunday morning to get to Allentown early in order to get good seats. The show starts at 12:00 Noon. The last band is scheduled to perform at 5:30 PM.

Please note: this is a rain or shine event and there are no refunds for tickets. Pick-up time will be 7:00 PM. We will use cell phones to call if we are earlier. Any band member who ordered tickets for the Collegiate Marching Band Festival should pay for their ticket by THURSDAY. Inclement Weather

In the event that our schedule ever needs to be adjusted due to serious, inclement weather, all official decisions will be sent out from Mr. Holladay via email, Facebook, and the Remind text message system.

Many Cavalcade competitions make alternate plans for an indoor, standstill show, should the need arise. We assure you that the safety of your students is the staff's highest priority. All performance and rehearsal decisions are made with the students' well-being in mind.

Please refrain from posting or sharing information about schedule changes unless that information has been disseminated through official band communication channels. As with our regular updates and announcements, we need to ensure that all parents and students are receiving accurate, up-to-date information directly from Mr. Holladay.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Homecoming Dance - Enchantment Under the Sea

This year's Homecoming Dance is sponsored by the Marching Band and the Pottsgrove Music League! The funds raised by this event will help the band offset this season's costs.

In keeping with the Back to the Future theme of this year's show, the Homecoming dance is titled "Enchantment Under the Sea!"

In order for this to be a successful event, we need at least 10 parent volunteers. You can sign up for this event on Charms, on the Volunteer page. The dance will run from 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM on Saturday, October 17 in the Cafeteria. All volunteers should report by 6:30 PM. Please consider volunteering for this event!

IMPORTANT: ANY parent or adult who volunteers at this event MUST have submitted their clearances to Mr. Holladay. You cannot volunteer without them.

To a performer, nothing is more exciting than to have a large audience for which to perform. Please make every effort to come out and support the band as they compete throughout the season. It promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and the band will appreciate the cheers.

There are no Advanced Tickets available for the West Chester East Cavalcade. All tickets must be purchased at the gate.

Chaperone Sign Ups

Parents interested in chaperoning throughout the season should fill out the "Chaperone Availability Form" as soon as possible.

Please note:

  • NO ONE will be scheduled to chaperone ANY band function (rehearsals, performances, OR fundraisers) without up-to-date clearances. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Signing up for a date does not guarantee that you will chaperone that day. We do our best to rotate through all of our volunteers, giving new and returning parents the opportunity to help with the band.

We do still need clearances from ALL parent volunteers. They are free for volunteers, you simply need to obtain the clearances. All instructions can be obtained on the district website and all forms are now digital. The district website lists all the instructions for which clearances you may need. Please bring photocopies to Mr. Holladay as soon as possible. CLICK HERE for the link to the district website.

Important Reminder

If you are going to miss any part of a rehearsal or performance, please remember that you must submit a note to Mr. Holladay 2 weeks PRIOR to the scheduled event.

Also, as stated in the Marching Band Handbook, parents are asked to schedule all doctors appointments around the band schedule. The schedule is published far enough in advance to allow you opportunity to make other arrangements for appointments other than rehearsal time. Please utilize Mondays, Wednesdays, and any other afternoon for those appointments.

T-Shirt Bill

All orders for t-shirts and sweatshirts were distributed on Thursday and at tonight’s rehearsal. We also gave students a physical copy of their bill. Payments for shirts, shoes, and water jugs are due by Thursday, October 1. You do not need to wait until October to pay for your items. Partial payments are also accepted prior to the October 1 deadline.

Collegiate Marching Band Festival TIckets

If you ordered tickets for the Collegiate Band Festival, payment is due by Thursday, October 1. Please put your payment in an envelope with your name on the front. If you are paying by check, please make checks payable to: “Pottsgrove Music League PTA.” Tickets are $10.

Band Pictures

PORTRAITS WITH PRIDE will be taking individual band pictures on Thursday, October 15, from 3:00 - 6:30 PM. Each band member must make sure they are signed up for a time to be photographed. We ask that you arrive early in order to change into your uniform. Siblings should sign up for adjacent time slots. This will help in scheduling and will allow siblings to also have the chance to be photographed together in one or two shots.

You do NOT need to purchase any photos, but everyone must be photographed. The photographers will return on October 27 from 5 PM - 9 PM to show the proofs. They will arrange these appointments when the pictures are taken. Your child will be expected to pick a time that is convenient for your family.

Any parents who are willing to come in and view proofs will receive a FREE Photo Button of their student. However, you will not be pressured to buy anything. Any parents who wish to purchase pictures can do so that night and payment is due in full. Your pictures are then mailed to your home in approximately 2-3 weeks.

If you have any questions please contact Mr. Holladay or you can email - orders@portaitswithpride.com.

Text Alerts - Parents

As we approach the hectic time of year with football games and competitions, it is important to maintain a good level of communication with parents and/or guardians. With that in mind, we will start utilizing text alerts to keep you updated if our scheduled time of arrival back at the HS, and other last minute changes need to be communicated quickly. This service will only be used sparingly and when our schedule has been altered. All times will be communicated through the Falcon Call and the online calendar. If you would like to be included on the Text Message Alert list, please follow the instructions below:

To receive messages via text, text: @15pgmbpar to 81010. You can opt-out of messages at anytime by replying: unsubscribe @15pgmbpar.

You MUST include the "@" symbol in order to subscribe properly.

Helpful Hint

The best thing that has been found to clean dirty band shoes is Armor All ® Protectant wipes. They are neat, tidy, and make your shoes look close to new. Please make sure your shoes are always clean prior to ALL performances.

Wawa Hoagie Coupons

We are still accepting orders for Wawa Coupons. In order to place another order, we need 150 tickets. Once we hit that number, we can order them from Wawa.

Contact Amy Marazas with any questions. She can be reached at 215-200-1600 or amarazas77@gmail.com

Birthdays this coming week:

Alternate Transportation

From your handbook: Any time that it is NECESSARY for a student to take an alternative form of transportation home FROM an away game, competition, or other performance, a note MUST be submitted PRIOR to our departure from Pottsgrove High School. Notes will NOT be accepted after the band has left the high school. There are no exceptions to this rule. Notes must be written and signed by the student’s parent or legal guardian. E-mails will NOT be accepted for this type of permission; it MUST be a note WITH proper signature. If a band parent/guardian is taking another band member home, there must be a note from both students’ parent/guardian.

Following the band’s dismissal to load the bus, any students who have followed the proper guidelines MUST check out with Mr. Holladay, and the person responsible for their transportation must be present.

As you download them, please forward them to Mr. Holladay on a disc, flash drive, or through Dropbox. PLEASE do not email photos or videos. The files are too large, and will get blocked. About Us

The band program at Pottsgrove High School forms a vital and important role in the complete high school experience.

Comprised of 55 students in grades 9 through 12, the Falcon Marching band performs at all home and away football games, local events and parades, and competes in the Cavalcade of Band circuit throughout the fall.

In addition to local performances, the ensemble has had several opportunities to perform on the national stage. Over the past ten years, the band has participated in Washington DC's Cherry Blossom Parade, the Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl (San Diego, CA), and the Miss America Parade (Atlantic City, NJ). In December, the band will make its first appearance at the 2015 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta, GA.

For a full schedule of performances, please contact Mr. Victor Holladay, Band Director.
