The Bobcat
Week of August 27, 2018
Vision
Academic Excellence and Success
From Mr. R's Desk
Bobcat Nation,
We want to be very clear with our instructional expectations here at Rio Hondo High School. These expectations will be the driving force of our culture and our progress. Please note, that our academic decisions will always be based on student achievement, rather than adult convenience. We will respect your voice and your input but all we ask, is that you always place kids first.
Instructional Expectations
- Be on target with district and campus goals.
- Visible objectives and task.
- Emphasis on depth of knowledge.
- Identify hotspots to reinforce and scaffold lessons.
- Bell-to-bell “learning”.
- Lectures should be no longer than 15 minutes.
- Guard & protect your instructional minutes. For example, no hall passes the 1st or last 15 minutes of instruction.
- Have engaging lessons.
- Utilize lessons that involve student collaboration.
- Rigor in the classroom does not mean more “busy” work.
- Incorporate writing in your content as much as possible.
- Have meaningful and relevant discussions with your students.
- Differentiate instruction: ensure that you are aware of all your students and their learning needs.
- Incorporate technology: not only for engagement but for authentic work.
Please do not underestimate and/or shortchange our students. They need your very best and please be mindful of what students are saying about you & your lessons. Their body of work is their voice and your “brand”.
