Gifted Review

Important Information about Gifted Review

Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and to determine if further evaluation for possible gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form (found at the website below) and submit it to the Gifted Specialist at your child’s school by October 9th. No additional information is needed. The Gifted Specialist for Talley is Nicole Fiber and Stephanie Trauner. Lost and Found

Please ensure that students check the lost and found located at Ms. Parks' desk each day. All items remaining in lost and found at the end of each month will be donated to the local GoodWill store.

Talley Street PTO

Little Shop of Stories Book Fair sponsored by Talley Street PTO is this week!


The inaugural Talley book fair is this week from Monday, September 16-Friday, September 20. Our book fair is provided by Little Shop of Stories.


Stop by before or after your child's conference!


Pre-order copies of the new Wings of Fire graphic novel to be released October 15 and on Tuesday we will have copies of the brand new graphic novel Guts by Raina Telgemeier!


Our media center will receive 20% of all non-discounted sales, which we can't wait to use to fill our shelves with more wonderful books for your children! We will have a wish list of books for the Media Center and teachers will create wish lists for their classrooms - please consider purchasing a Media Center or class book as a gift from your family.


Shopping hours are:


  • Monday 7:20 am - 3:30 pm
  • Tuesday 7:20 am - 6:00 pm (open till the end of Whiz Kids pickup - come shop with your kids!)
  • Wednesday 7:20 am - 3:30 pm
  • Thursday 7:20 am - 3:30 pm
  • Friday 7:20 am - 9:00 am (come before or after the Talley Rally!)

Box Tops, Publix, and More

Box Tops:

Box Tops have gone digital!! Download the App, Box Tops for Education. Enter your information, select Talley St., scan receipts and done! If you still have hard copy box tops, we will be collecting them behind the front desk. There is a box labeled Box Tops for Education. Have your kiddo bring in box tops and look for the Large Envelope/box near the front desk. They’ll be collected twice a year.

Oct 5 – There’s still time to register for the Madison Ave. Soapbox Derby! Build your own creatively themed soapbox racer and compete against the clock. Sign up by Sept. 27th. The fee is $30 per driver. This is a fundraiser benefiting Global Village Project (DEF was last year’s co-beneficiary). The event is free for spectators and open to the public. Nov 14 6:30-10:30 pmSupper & Sips We are currently seeking business sponsors and patrons who would like to be a part of our big fall fundraiser, Supper & Sips. Our annual event is a party with a purpose that includes food from some of Decatur's favorite restaurants as well as a competitive auction with amazing prizes. Extracurricular Activities

Basketball Skills Academy

The Decatur High Basketball Skills Academy is an opportunity for your student athlete to get a head start for this year’s basketball season.

- The sessions will be held on 4 Sundays: September 29th and October 6th, 13th, and 20th
- Sessions will take place in the DHS Gym from 2pm-4pm for Grades 4-8
- The cost is a non-refundable $100 paid upon arrival at the first session via check, money order, or cash made out to Decatur High School Athletics
- If there is a financial need, please contact Coach Dawson at edawson@csdecatur.net
- A sports waiver must be signed for your student to participate and we ask that appropriate clothing/attire is worn.

Decatur Strings Orchestra Program

Orchestra is open to all grades (3-5) - still a few open slots!

Intermediate Orchestra is off to a good start and... it's not too late to Sign-up! Any student (grades 3-5) who has taken the Beginning class or has had several months (or years) of private lessons is eligible. The class meets AFTER school on Mondays & Tuesdays each week from 2:50 - 3:30pm. Sign-up here.

Beginning Orchestra will start the first week in October. At this point, we have a bounty of aspiring violin players signed-up. We are now only accepting students who wish to play viola, cello, or bass. The class will meet BEFORE school, two days per week (schedule is still TBD) from 7:00 to 7:35am beginning the first week of October.


The participation fee for either orchestra ensemble is $160 for the full year and the student must supply their instrument. Partial or full need-based scholarships are available to cover the participation fee and instrument rental.
