From the Principal's Office
Good Morning Lancer Families,
I have a laundry list of items that I need to share:
I am happy to report that effective immediately, Thousand Oaks High School will be partnering with Herff Jones as their supplier of all things graduation - caps, gowns, honor cords, class rings, etc. We are incredibly excited by what Herff Jones will be bringing to the tables, not the least of which are new, custom gowns that our ASB officers will be helping design. Dallas Moon, our new Herff Jones rep will soon be on campus in order to get information out to families. Stay tuned for more information.
This Tuesday, October 4th, our 40 or so student clubs will all be out in the Quad at lunch recruiting new members. Joining a club is a GREAT way for students to get involved at school while at the same time meeting some new friends.
Next up, beginning tomorrow, all old, outdated Chromebooks will be disabled. if students have any Samsung, HP or a Dell 3100 Chromebook, they will be fine. All others are now out of warranty and will be disabled by CVUSD. If your student has a disabled Chromebook, they can bring it to room K1 (just east of the TOHS Library entrance) and exchange the old model for a new one.
The TOHS Counseling team will soon be offering a valuable presentation to all new 9th grade parents and students. The session, called "Navigating the 9th Grade", will cover Graduation Requirements, what Naviance is, why it's important and how to use it, Canvas tips, they will cover several of our programs like ETHOS, The Center, AVID, CTE and Majors. The event will take place on Thursday, October 6th at 6pm in the PAC. Spanish translation is available.
As you may know, our Homecoming week is scheduled to take place next week, October 10-15. Our ASB and Activities has a great week of events planned. The week will conclude with our Homecoming Football game on Friday when we take on Moorpark HS. At halftime, you will be treated to performances from our Band, Dance Team and Cheerleaders, we will continue to have our annual Homecoming parade and finally, we will have our fireworks show. If you live close to the school, please take a moment and read the letter below. While it's difficult to predict when, exactly, the festivities begin, halftimes usually occur sometime between 8:00pm and 8:30 pm.
Last but not least, I remind everyone that there is no school this Wednesday, October 5th, as the community observes the Yom Kippur holiday.
Thanks for all you do to support our school.
Dr. Bergmann

Artists of the Month for September
Olivia Barber (Gr. 11)
Chase Thomas (Gr. 12)
Olivia and Chase are the new Drum Majors for the 2022-23 TOHS Lancer Marching Band. While both are extremely strong musicians having participated in Marching Band, Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble at Thousand Oaks, they have also auditioned and qualified to be part of Local, Regional and National Honor Bands. They now have taken a giant step into the role of leadership as they conduct the Marching Band at rehearsal and performance scheduled for this fall. I am impressed on their calm composure, while taking risks to set the example for each band member strives for…Excellence with no excuses!
Congratulations to both Olivia and Chase on being featured at Artists of the Month.
Athletes of the Month for September will be announced next week.

Student Athletics and Activities
Athletics
Athletic Contests This Week
Interested in Wrestling?
Wrestling is one of the Great Equalizer Sports. Anyone of any size, body type, sex, or ability can wrestle. If you are tall, short, heavy, light, big, small, male, female, fast, slow, hyper, kick-back; any extreme or anywhere in between, you can become a wrestler. There is no one 'type' of wrestler or wrestling body, so if you have an interest, we can use you for the 2022-23 Squad. The Lancer Wrestling Team is looking for anyone who would be interested in checking out the sport.
The best way to get involved is to go to room D-9 and speak with Coach Lyne in his history room. You can also email him at klyne@conejousd.org. for additional information. Or, we have a 6th period PE class that meets in the Boy's Activity Room, if you want to come and catch us there.
Athletic Tickets
Girls Wrestling is Looking for Interested Students
The Lancer Girl's Wrestling Team is looking to increase our presence in the Marmonte League. Last year we led the League with 2 League Champions. Girl's, did you know that the fastest growing sport in College is Women's Wrestling. Over the last year, and average of three colleges have added women's wrestling to their sports line-up every month.
There are currently 117 colleges, from NCAA D1 Universities to the Junior Colleges that offer wrestling programs for women, many with scholarship opportunities. These scholarships are available because of the small numbers of high school female wrestlers. If you would like a shot at an athletic scholarship to help you get into college, the Lancer Girl's Wrestling Team might be for you.
For more information, please contact Coach Lyne, TOHS history teacher, in room D-9 or at klyne@conejousd.org, or Coach Ritterbush at dritterbush@conejousd.org.

High Speed Internet for All
High-speed internet has become a necessity of modern life, which is why the Ventura County Office of Education is supporting a statewide effort to make it available to everyone.
The California Broadband Council is spreading the word that low-income families can receive a $30 monthly discount on home internet service and a $100 discount on a computer or tablet. There are about 80,000 households in Ventura County who are eligible for these discounts that haven’t yet applied.
