Spain Park High School 10/25/19
A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Today, we started our day with a culmination of our second annual World Heritage Week celebration. We had seven students recite the United States Pledge of Allegiance in their language. A special thanks to these students for sharing their language with us: Louis Held- German, Ellie Carelli- Italian, Khaldoun Faris-Arabic, Wendy Njiru-Swahili, Marisol Rocha- Spanish, Tsubasa Kodama- Japanese, and Trey Helms in English. We are indeed a diverse student body, and we honor each culture represented.
We want to congratulate over 130 of our students who were recognized this past Sunday at our Academic Letter Awards Ceremony. These students have distinguished themselves academically by being in the top ten percent of their class. Additionally, those students who participated in Athletics, Fine Arts, one of our Academies, or 80 hours of Community Service, received the Crossed Swords Award. It was impressive to see the large number of students who not only lettered academically but involved themselves in Spain Park extracurricular activities as well.
Next Friday, November 1, 2019, is our last home football game and Senior Night. We will recognize the senior Football Players, Band members, Colorguard members, Dazzlers, Majorettes, Cheerleaders, and Student Trainers. We look forward to celebrating these students for their years of commitment to Spain Park High School.
Also, looking forward, please make plans to attend our Veterans Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at 6:30 pm in the theater. Mr. Todd Parker, Spain Park High School Government Teacher, and former Teacher of the Year is our guest speaker. We will host a reception immediately after the concert with live music presented by the SPHS Jazz Band, Shades of Blue. We plan to recognize ALL VETERANS who are present and thank them for their service.
Finally, Hoover City Schools’ Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) would like to make our community aware of the Out of the Darkness Alabama Walk will be held at Veterans Park on 11/3/19. This effort raises awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Join our team!
Check-in/Registration Time: 1:00 pm, Walk Begins: 2:30 pm, Walk Ends: 4:00 pm. Click Here for more information.
As always, I am available to hear your feedback on how we can make SPHS a great place to be.
Respectfully,
Peter L. Giangrosso

Veterans Day Project
The SPHS student body will be focused on "doing the packing" for 500 boxes with toiletry articles, food snacks, underclothing, (“incidentals”) and "thank you" notes during class periods on November 6th and 7th. Subsequently, the boxes are to be mailed overseas to our active-duty military men and women by the Support-Our-Soldiers organization, and in time for the holidays.
October through November 1st is scheduled for volunteer contributions. Parents, students, faculty, and all interested, who would like to have a part in this worthwhile and patriotic work, may donate incidentals for packing and give a half-box provision of $10 or a full-box provision of $20. You can donate on My School Fees or send a check payable to SPHS.
Please join us for our Veterans Day Celebration
