Halloween week at OLMP!
Wow what an amazing week of activities planned by the Halloween committee! As a committee our young leaders stepped up and planned five days worth of activities taking place during noon hours for the enjoyment of OLMP students.
Day 1: Pumpkin Carving Contest- Some wonderful creativity and initiative was shown by all participants. Congratulations to the winners!
Day 2: Mummy on the Wall (the winning team stayed up 30 seconds longer than any other participants)
Day 3: Halloween Olympics- including Bowling, skeleton build, monster bean bag toss, and Halloween themed charades.
Day 4: The Annual Halloween Parade MC’ed by Tristen Eames! Great job to this grade six student for stepping up. Thanks to those who dressed up and displayed outstanding school spirit.
Day 5: Pie in the Face - Thank you to all the teachers who volunteered their faces to be victimized by whipped cream.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Rodin’s cake decorating class for providing the decorated cookies to be used as prizes for some of the activities and to everyone who dressed up! Winners of the costume parade are in the middle photo below.
Along with students getting many sweet treats this week our Foods class reminded students that Halloween treats can be healthy too as they prepared apple monsters in foods class!
Catholic Education Sunday
See below an attachment letter from The Catholic Bishops of Alberta and the Northwest Territories. You can also click another link below for an upcoming EICS event in Sherwood Park this Monday on why Catholic Education is important.
The theme of the bishops' annual message on Catholic Education Sunday is "Rejoice and be Glad". We are living out this message in Elk Island Catholic Schools through our division theme, that we are all God's Masterpiece. We are privileged in Alberta to have a separate Catholic system. We will continued giving our best to the formation of the whole child: academically, socially, spiritually, physically. We at EICS would also like to acknowledge that we are privileged to teach and care for your children. Thank you for your trust, and for allowing us to be involved in their lives. Thank you for your ongoing support, and your prayers.
Operations Christmas Child!
As we move into the holiday season we want to inform our community that OLMP is participating in Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a hands-on way for Canadians to bless struggling children in the developing world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and other items. Each year, millions of shoeboxes are packed with gifts by people in Canada and nine other “sending” countries, and given to children in more than 100 “receiving” countries. The boxes are collected and distribute in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in desperate situations as a result of war, poverty, famine, disease, and disaster.
We have a short window to collect items for this cause. Please bring all items that we can use to pack boxes by the morning of Friday, November 9th! Items can be brought to the office or your TAG homeroom teachers in a grocery bag. Boxes will be packed at noon on Friday in the high school commons area if anyone is wanting to help.

Book Recommendation
Book Recommended: School Of Fear
Author: Gitty Daneshvari
Recommended by: Reagan Ross (OLMP 6A student)
Book Description: Madeline, Lulu, Theodore, and Garrison are all very afraid of something. So much so that Lulu handcuffs herself to a plane on a class field trip in a desperate attempt to not ride on an elevator, Garrison Is invited to go swim, surf, and hang out at the beach after a football game but quickly insults one of his friends and runs behind the shed and has a panic attack at the thought of water, Madeline is always armed with bug spray as well as a veil that she wears to bed and has an exterminator come very often sometimes even daily, Theo has his family text him hourly in fear that they are dead. In fact one time while his parents were out on a camping trip at Yosemite national forest in northern California that had no cell reception he tricked the park ranger in to going after his parents because of a non existent fire. When there parents are fed up they decide to send their kids to the very illusive almost unknown by all, the school of fear with Ms.Wellington. When the four kids are surprised to see that Ms.Wellington a former beauty pageant queen is not quite as bad as they thought no matter what strange things she has them do!
Why it is recommended: School of fear is the first book in a series of 3. I read the first book and was immediately hooked. School of fear is not a very popular book, but it is a fun relatable fictional book and I loved how funny and how easy it was to just pick up and read.
OLMP PARENT ALL CALL - We'd love to get more student and parent book recommendations of literature. Please forward your book recommendations to Mrs. Smith at kristys@eics.ab.ca with the subject "READ THIS BOOK"
